So I was testing the Chromebook at the local Staples. They only carry the most expensive one so I wouldn't be buying there anyway, but its a convenient store to go to & I was there for something else anyway. So I try to log onto gmail & Google says to me "you are logging on from an unusual place" or something to that effect. Gee, it doesn't say that when I go to a new library to log on. And it certainly didn't say that to me the last time I logged in from a store demo laptop, either.
It sends my cell phone a code, I type that in, & I'm on. But then I can't kill my ID on this demo computer. Which stinks since I want a portable computer so as to be able to log onto the internet both from my ghostjmf account & my realname account. Store person keeps saying, after trying various things, unsuccessfully, "it will disappear eventually. And no-one can log on as you without your password". Yes, but I don't want my account name permanently affixed to their demo. Eventually, some demo loop they have running did succeed in removing my account name.
But I don't want to buy any device if Google is going to limit me to having one account name locked onto it, or to have to go through some long rigamarole to change from one account to another.
I can't log onto my sister's I-pad or new I-phone. Even my sister can only use one account name on these devices. I bet there's some way she can get both her account names on, but the local Apple support store is playing dumb about this. Eventually she will look it all up. She's still at the "playing with new toy" stage. So I already knew this about Apple products, but Google products too? Not good.
I've recently realized the reason "there's an app" for everything on most portable devices is the device makers make it very, very hard to do normal stuff you could do from a stationary computer on their portable device without the damn app.
I really need a portable e-mail-reading device, don't ask why. But if people won't call or text the damn phone, I need portable e-mail. But I don't want to break the bank & then get something that severely limits me.
New, goofy impediment to my laptop search saga
