We played the Swiss in Flight B of the Grand National Teams. We qualified fifth and (after a random shuffle among positions five through eight) are seeded fifth in the knockout. Our opponent is a team we blitzed yesterday so I am hopeful. --Bob

Forgot to win. Went down in a game I should have made, and that alone would have very nearly been the difference. Life Master Pairs tomorrow. --Bob

I'm playing the main event, but I will be playing the 0-5000 mini-Spingold next week. --Bob

I'm just a duffer at bridge, but I did visit a bridge yesterday: the bridge that takes I-495 over the Christina River in Delaware, that began to tilt and is being repaired. Now I'm sorry I didn't snap a picture; the big crane on top of the bridge, with a big flag flying from it, was impressive. I hoped to hear Pres. Obama's speech there, but it was inside the Port of Wilmington and there was no public viewing area.

Didn't qualify for the second day. Playing a knockout tomorrow. Maybe I'll have some better results. --Bob

You can see it in the background of this news photo of the speech.

Partner and I are sitting out the fourth quarter but we are comfortably situated to advance. We're in a three-team round robin with two teams advancing. Net IMPs is the tie-breaker if one is needed. We're leading both matches, one by 1 IMP and the othe by 85, so the worst realistic case is we finish 1-1 with a positive differential, in which case we're mathematically guaranteed to advance to tomorrow's 32-team bracket. --Bob

We ended up winning both matches. For those who want to follow along using the ACBL's bracket sheets, we're the Einberg team. We started as the number 29 seed. --Bob

Thanks. I'll keep an eye out for them and figure out where we'd meet if we both get that far. We're up 20 at the half. --Bob

Both of our pairs were uncomfortable with our play in the third quarter but we still added 4 IMPs to our lead. We had solid sets in the fourth quarter and won handily.
Sorry, Mac, but your friends lost. We would have met them, if at all, in the finals.
Partner and I will be playing the second and third quarters tomorrow. --Bob

Good luck! Dang, sure wish I could have attended the tournament. Imagine work getting in the way of play.
Man, did my Spingold fantasy bracket take a beating the first round.

Same thing happened to me the new system implementation was scheduled for early July but got postponed to late July and now postponed to late Aug. I was supposed to be in under 1500 LM pairs last weekend

We were leading by. 55 IMPs at the half, the largest halftime margin of the eight matches in our event today. They closed the gap a bit in the third quarter but we still have a comfortable, but not insurmountable, lead of 45 IMPs. That's about as safe as a 17-point lead going into the fourth quarter of an NFL game -- the trailing team needs to play very well and also catch some breaks.
Partner and I are sitting out the fourth quarter so we will trust our teammates to bring this one home. --Bob

Just wanted to wish all y'all good continuing luck. Back in the day I had a convo with Bob about me learning bridge. My mom was a serious player, Jeff played a long time ago, relatives tried to get me in the game and it didn't work for a variety of reasons. Maybe in another life. I understand its intrigue.

Thanks. Looks like we'll be in the semifinals tomorrow. We blew open a close match and now are leading by 67 with one quarter to go. It would take a catastrophe to lose at this point. --Bob

We won the fourth quarter 48-6 to win the match by 109. This is now officially my biggest ever haul of masterpoints from a single event, and if we win two more matches that total will double.
Incidentally, two of my Flight B teammates in Grand National Teams are on one of the finalists playing for the title later today in the 0-1500 event. --Bob
