Weasel was flying solo on the final grids. Did he get any points out of it?
Grid 1:
BEAST | BEEBS | BOO | BREAKDOWN
EAR | EARTH | EYE | FLOWER
GLOW | HEART | LAUGH | NELLY
NICK | PEACOCK | REX | TIC
How many current Bored Buddies did you spot? How many past Bored Buddies did you spot? There were seven altogether... and every single one of them went into a category that didn't involve the Bored. How did I pull off that feat? See below.
1. BEAST | BOO | FLOWER | REX
Characters in Disney/Pixar films. You have the main character in "Beauty and the Beast", the little girl in "Monsters, Inc.", the skunk in "Bambi", and the dinosaur in "Toy Story".
2. BREAKDOWN | LAUGH | NELLY | TIC
Nervous _____.
3. EAR | EARTH | GLOW | HEART
_____worm.
4. BEEBS | EYE | NICK | PEACOCK
Nicknames for TV networks. Eye (CBS), Nick (Nickelodeon), and Peacock (NBC) were the easy ones. Beebs is a nickname for the BBC... the family of networks that gave us "Only Connect", the quiz show on which this game is based.
Grid 2:
ALLURE | ANGEL | BALLOT | BANK
CROSSWORD PUZZLE | DEON COLE | EBONY | ESSENCE
EUCALYPTUS | JET | LOVER | MOUTH
PRIVATE | RUNOFF | SEXY | SOURCE
Ebony, Essence, Jet, and Source are all Black magazines. There was a "Black" category here, but it wasn't that one.
1. BANK | MOUTH | RUNOFF | SOURCE
Parts of a river.
2. ANGEL | EBONY | PRIVATE | SEXY
Hit songs called "_____ Eyes". The 1989 Jeff Healey hit, the 1978 Bob Welch hit, the 1981 Hall & Oates hit, and the 1980 Dr. Hook hit.
3. CROSSWORD PUZZLE | DEON COLE | EUCALYPTUS | JET
All are associated with the phrase "black box". Crossword puzzles have black boxes. Deon Cole hosted "Deon Cole's Black Box" on TBS. A species of eucalyptus is called "black box". A jet's flight recorder is called a "black box".
4. ALLURE | BALLOT | ESSENCE | LOVER
French "faux amis".
OK, I know all of you are giving me a strange look on that one. "What the **** is a faux ami?!"
In vocabulary, a "faux ami" is a word that appears in two languages, but has different meanings in each. All of these English words appear in the French language, but do not mean the same thing in English as they do in French. "Allure" means speed, "ballot" means package, "essence" means gasoline, and "lover" is a verb that means to coil.
7/14 + 7/15 + 7/16 scores (4 participants)
ShamelessWeasel - 16 + 24 + 16 = 56
Bob Juch - 16 + 20 + 0 = 36
franktangredi - 4 + 8 + 0 = 12
Bob78164 - 4 + 0 + 0 = 4
