WWTBAM Bored

This one actually occurred a couple of weeks ago but I just heard about it. The MPAA has adopted a rule that a film can "only" submit a maximum of 10 actors and 10 actresses for Oscar consideration. I can't ever recall a film in which there were more than 10 actors (or actresses) remotely by the slightest chance worthy of an Oscar, but apparently the Academy is worried that voters won't be able to keep all the many worthy performers in the last Transformers movie separate.

By the way, if anyone has some time, read the article underneath the Oscar one. It lists well-known and (mostly) acclaimed actors who have never received an Oscar nomination. Of course, as they acknowledge, that list fortunately shrinks over time. Gary Oldman and Christopher Plummer only received their first nominations very recently.

I think that new rule may have been adopted in due to The Expendables III. Or a possible remaike of IAMMMMW.

Some of those 'shocking' omissions aren't all that shocking. (How many movies has Carol Burnett made, and can you name one where you thought, 'Wow, that's an Oscar role!')

The more shocking list is actors who are now dead who never received Oscar nominations, and never will. This would include Edward G. Robinson, Myrna Loy, Joan Bennett, Joseph Cotten, Peter Lorre, Fred MacMurray, Betty Field, Robert Walker, Joel McCrea, John Barrymore...

Any one of the actors nominated that year would do the same thing. John Cassavetes is an excellent actor, but I doubt his role in the Dirty Dozen challenged him much. Same with Gene Hackman in Bonnie and Clyde.

I wish Michael J. Pollard had won. I would have loved to see the guy who pulled off playing a 13 year old kid in Star Trek at age 27 winning an Oscar.

Who beat out Montgomery Clift, Peter Falk, Jackie Gleason, and George C. Scott. Scott might have won, but that was the first time he turned down the nomination.

No age was specified, just that he hadn't gone through puberty yet. I said 13 because he looked about 17 to me too.

Kim Darby was 19. John Megna was 15, not too bad.
