I saw a lot of animals at the Omaha zoo today, and I only paid US$XX.

I thought that phone number looked a "little" familiar.

Maybe we should all call, just to see how Fred's getting along these days. He's probably lonely.

It was kind of hard to find (what I hoped was the right number) through the Google. But when I saw it-it felt right.

Nothing wrong with the Omaha Zoo. Been there twice-2004 and 2011. After the 2011 visit, Littlest Spock (8 at the time) wanted to buy a vacation home in Omaha so we could visit often.

Wouldn't be my first choice for a vacation home, but there you are.

Omaha zoo is wonderful, but it is kind of like sleeping with a tattoo'd whore, and believe me-I know my tattoo'd whores. No, but I was only there for less than an hour, so I didn't have time to shoot any zebras. I had driven a rental car back from Kansas and got to Omaha with a little extra time before my flight, so I stopped by to get a quick look at the zoo. I discovered that there was a symbolic small park in the middle of the parking lot, honoring the old Rosenblatt Stadium that once stood on that spot. They preserved the original location of the infield as a sentimental shrine, with the original base positions retained and small dugouts on and a few stadium seats on each side, and some plaques about the history of the place. I stopped to take some photos and the only other people there were a young father with his daughter who looked about 3 years old. I watched him take photos and videos of his daughter standing at home plate and joyously running the bases, obviously hoping she would share his love of baseball. They seemed to be having such a great time together and having a wonderful father-daughter experience that I almost felt guilty for invading their privacy. It seemed that they ought to have a photo to remember their day together, so I offered to take a few of both of them. He gladly accepted and showed me how to use his cell phone camera, then stood on the pitcher's mound holding his daughter. I got a few shots of them with the preserved Rosenblatt Stadium sign behind them in what was once the outfield. I think the photos turned out very well and I hope they will be a treasured keepsake in years to come. He thanked me profusely and I left. We never got each other's names or really talked, but it seemed like a nice moment. So that was my only interaction with the natives.

After that, I only had time for a quick stroll through the dome that simulates separate desert environments for animals in Africa, Australia, and the Americas. I saw a lot of animals in a short time, including one or more of each of these: Gila Monster, peccary, kookaburra, road runner, meerkat, ocelot, bobcat, lots of snakes and lizards, and many more. I think I probably saw less than 5% of the zoo, so I hope to return in the future when I have a lot more time.
