World War II veteran who survived in a life raft for 47 days after his plane was shot down and then two more years in a Japanese prison camp. His story has been made into a book by Laura Hillenbrand, Unbroken, and an upcoming Christmas release movie of the same name directed by Angelina Jolie and written by the Coen Brothers (English actor Jack O'Connell will play Zamperini. Before the war, he competed on the 1936 U.S. Olympic team in the 5000 meter run. Two months ago, Zamperini was named Grand Marshall of the 2015 Rose Bowl Parade (I'm guessing they will still hold that position in his honor).

Age 97.
