Sports J! audition

My audition for Sports Jeopardy! was today. There were about 70 people, all men, and I was one of 21 who passed the test and got to stay for the interview portion. It was just like the audition for the regular show with the mock game and the interview. There will be 50 shows with the winners getting $5000, and no returning champions. The highest scorers for the season will play a tournament of champions for $50K. It could affect Final Jeopardy wagering if a player is within striking range of the ToC.

They will do shows in August, January and April and will notify contestants about a month in advance.

If they handle it like the regular show, contestants should not be allowed to see what the previous high scores have been, so they won't have an advantage in qualifying for the tournament. But that will be hard to enforce, since some games may already be shown before others are taped, and studio audiences could easily leak some results that have not yet been aired. I wonder if that's one of the reasons for three taping seasons -- the final might be a matchup between the three winners of each taping season.

The format is likely to affect DD wagers as well as FJ wagers, as players take more risks and make huge bets to try to reach the finals. Roger Craig's one day $77K record could fall, though it wouldn't be a fair comparison.

Good luck!

Technically, that wouldn't happen. Sports J! doesn't play the game for dollars, they play for points. The winner of a day's episode gets $5000, no matter what.

50 shows? Is this going to be a spin-off series or will J! really be devoting a quarter of the year to this one theme?

It will be airing on Crackle.com and will be a spin-off of J! the way Rock and Roll Jeopardy was on VH1 and GSN from 1998-2001.

But will the "point" numerical values be the same as the standard "dollar" numerical values? Either way, the numbers on the board are how the game is scored. It's just that on the standard J! games, those points also happen to be dollars (for the winner only).
