No, this isn't The Onion. And yes, it's (in my opinion) too stupid for words. --Bob

Of course it does, yep. We're all stupid here. Me, Ed, Cal, Beebs and others. In fact we're so stupid here and our schools so bad, smart people are leaving in droves for more educated states like...um...like Georgia.silverscreenselect wrote:Bob78164 wrote:No, this isn't The Onion. The phrases "Texas school" and "too stupid for words" just naturally go together.
No argument from me. Our Republican leadership in Georgia knows the value of an educated populace.BackInTex wrote:Of course it does, yep. We're all stupid here. Me, Ed, Cal, Beebs and others. When the Texas Republican party has as one of the planks of their platform that they are opposed to teaching critical thinking, yes, they're trying to have a stupid --- or at least a compliant --- populace.BackInTex wrote:Of course it does, yep. I mentioned Texas because it's in the Sun Belt. A Texas school banning sunscreen seems to me more stupid than, say, a school in Portland, Oregon (where it rains approximately 500 days per year), doing so. --BobSpock wrote:I would love to know Bob's thought process in posting this.
1) Was it done as an indictment of the Zero Tolerance policy nationwide. If so, welcome to the party. TMITSSS, BiT, myself etc are right there with him on this. Does he have a history of posting examples of the stupid application of the Zero-Tolerance policy nationwide? Not that I have seen, but maybe so.
2) Was it posted as a lead to the argument that Texas applies the Zero Tolerance policies worse than other states-maybe so, maybe not. but that argument might be interesting.
3) Or is it simply a "Shiny Penny" and posted as if it occurred in a complete vacuum with no thought about the wider Zero-Tolerance policies that lead to it and other such examples.
"Ooh,a 'Shiny Penny' (or 'Squirrel' if you prefer), an example of something stupid that happened in Texas schools."
My vote is for #3, but I am willing to be convinced otherwise.
OK-I guess we are going with "Shiny Penny" then.Bob78164 wrote:I mentioned Texas because it's in the Sun Belt.
