Still helping the teachers find the answers.
In smaller schools (not sure about big ones) it is a tradition (less followed today) to have sayings under the senior's pictures in the yearbook.
Mine 1985 one was "Now that I am gone, the teachers will have to find their own answers."
The last teacher that I had from that time is retiring this year, but there is another one (biology and librarian) who retired a few years ago, but she subs on occasion. I run into her once in awhile and last summer, I lent her my copy of David Quammen's "Song of the Dodo" about island biogeography-I highly recommend this book for an overview of the field. It is highly applicable in a time when natural habitats are turning into islands.
For her retirement-she had gone to the Galapagos-so I figured she would like it if she had not already knew of it.
I saw her the other day at school and she asked me if she could buy me another copy as she had made notes throughout the book.
The Spocklette (7th Grade) said that the above teacher was the sub for her biology class the other day and they talked about "Island Biodiversity." She figured that was from my book as that was not the planned unit.
I told her about my yearbook saying and she thought that was very funny in general and in this context.
