CBS Renews ‘Mentalist,’ Cancels Others
CBS has given a seventh-season renewal to drama “The Mentalist” while dropping the ax on five first-year shows: “The Crazy Ones,” “Hostages,” “Intelligence,” “Friends with Better Lives” and “Bad Teacher.”
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

Good news on The Mentalist. This is actually one show that has gotten better since it was rebooted midseason with some new characters and a new setting.
CBS has also picked up a third CSI series, CSI: Cyber, with Patricia Arquette, which will focus on computer crime and its effects in the real world. The show had a backdoor pilot on a recent episode of CSI. Instead of one Penelope in the office and a half dozen agents in the field, imagine six Penelopes and one agent in the field.

I am completely grossed out by CSI. And I was supposed to be a career biologist. Not that I am, I don't wanna mislead here. But I like Arquette so much I may try to watch this. Usually, when I watch a show just because of the actor, I can't stick with it; I watched a few eps of that Candice Bergen show after Quantum Leap was cancelled & Scott Bakula joined the cast of Bergen's show, but I already knew I couldn't stand Bergen's show, & didn't stick with it. On the other hand, I started watching Criminal Minds mostly for Mandy Patinkin, & stuck with it even after he bailed because the serial-killer plots were bringing him very, very down; see interviews with him for this info. I'm not fond of serial-killers myself, but I do like the cast, & plotted relationships of them on the show. I did not appreciate the recent one on rabies done just so they could cash in on the zombie craze (who acts like a zombie? Someone dying of rabies!) but I do watch every show.
I don't agree on Mentalist being better after the reboot. But I watch it. I'm still waiting for Chu's party-girl girlfriend, last seen pregnant, to come back, saying her current flame kicked her out after "their" kid turned out to be born Chinese. That's a plot twist I was sure of, but not with the reboot. Though the Chu character is still there, even though moved to Texas, so maybe.
