One of the contestants for Tournament of Decades (or whatever they're officially calling it) really looked familiar. And he was back this week. Haplessly, he got to play KJ (& someone else, of course) & lost to KJ (so what else is new?). But he'd looked very familiar when he won his original Decades show, & continued to, so I pulled out my old BAM tape, &, yeah, there's me (& 8 others) losing the FF round to T. L. Cubbage. He's going by Tom Cubbage on J!.

More power to him.

(He was on this board as Perigrino or Pelligrino, I believe. If I'm wrong someone will correct me. "Perigrino" makes more sense to me from the bird's name, but it may have been "Pelligrino".)

He might make it into one of the wild card slots; I haven't seen tonight's show yet, when they announce that (if the station isn't playing Patriots stuff again in the J! slot, that is).

Apparently he was a Tournament winner on J! before he played BAM, unless I've got my Decades wrong. The rest of us didn't know that at the time.

I've mentioned that "T. L. Cubbage, who beat me on BAM, is in your Decades tournament" on my J! questionnaire, because they do ask if you've ever met, conversed with etc any J! players. Frankly, I glossed over the ones on this board, mentioning only the most prominent ones who I think won on J! in the past, explaining that "they all use nicknames on the message board anyway" so I don't know who is who.

But I thought I should mention this one, & the one other J! winner I've met in my life, even though I don't actually know either, beyond having met them.

With one game to go he's in the top wild card slot, so he's guaranteed to be a wild card semifinalist. As is Lescek. --Bob

Tom Cubbage won the 1989 College Championship(J!'s first-ever) and the 1989 TofC six months later.

I knew you folks would come through on this. I tried to google it but didn't get too far. (I'm incapacitated by my current state of mind; see other post.)

I was bummed when Lezak (undoubtably I've misspelled him!) didn't win his game either. He looked like he was KJing it until 3/4 of the way through, when one of his opponents pulled a very gutsy "true daily double", & won it.

I hope they both go to the Decades final.
