RIP Lee Marshall

#1 Post by jarnon » Fri May 09, 2014 8:26 am

Lee Marshall was a radio broadcaster, wrestling announcer, and cartoon voice. He played Tony the Tiger since 1999, but most of his cartoon roles were bad guys.
"I would just once like to be the guy who saves Scooby-Doo," he complained to his agent.

That would never happen, he was told: "You'll always be the guy who tries to kill Scooby-Doo."

I thought Thurl Ravencroft was the voice of Tony. Turns out Marshall took Ravencroft's place.

Thurl was a local personality. In addition to voicing tons of cartoon characters, he used to narrate the "Pageant of the Masters" in Laguna Beach each year. He also provided voice recordings for many characters in rides at Disneyland.

As far as I'm concerned, only Thurl ever did that 39.5 foot pole justice.

And that was national for years until Jim Carrey came along.

My bad. He was unquestionably a national personality. I meant to say something to indicate that he lived around here and spent may years at the Pageant of the Masters.
