The general public may soon have the chance to rest in peace on the moon, at least briefly. Houston-based Celestis, Inc. has announced plans to launch cremated human remains to the surface of the moon as soon as 2009.

Why does the article use the word "briefly"? If the capsule containing one's remains (or, rather the
one gram of encapsulated remains that are included in the $9,995 package) lands on the surface of the Moon, it would remain there permanently, as least from lunar geological (lunological?) perspective.
Now, the company's previous offerings, such as the one that took Scotty's remains into suborbital space--that was briefly.

Perhaps because they expect live company soon?
