Starting work in the morning

#1 Post by gsabc » Tue Apr 22, 2014 5:48 pm

The paperwork has finally gone through and I can start working for the client tomorrow. Initial contract is only ten weeks, with a maximum of 30 hours/week, but hey, it beats unemployment. I may have a line into another consulting contract (not with the consulting group) to fill the other hours of the week. I interviewed there for a full-time job, told them that I wouldn't be available until July, but the hiring manager liked me enough to offer me the gig as an independent auditor for an upcoming inspection with further discussions about the full-time position. We'll see what comes of it, but it was nice getting the offer.

The first client has a project with a hard deadline, so I feel obligated to see it through or at least give my consulting group some notice so they can find someone to replace me. Yeah, I know we're all at-will employees and can jump without notice, but I think that's sleazy. I also don't want to burn the bridge with the consulting group in case I need their services again in the future.

Out of the employment reserve at last. About bleepin' time.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

That's how I got back into the world of the full-time employed. My gig as a contract worker starting in September morphed into full-time employment as of January 1. Good luck. --Bob

Great to hear! Looks like a lot of hiring's going on now that the thaw has come.

Awesome!

And while employed, it is always easier to find a job.

Okay, that is anectdotal evidence but I believe it to be true.

Congratulations.

I can emphasize somewhat now since I've been out of work for the last week. They reshuffled the deck at my office so to speak and since I was doing two jobs half time each (the legal/contract work and the writing), they decided that each of those could be handled by other people. However, that means the legal work will be handled by the home office in CT, and they aren't too keen on picking that up because the Atlanta office didn't feel like taking care of it. We only technically have one attorney and that's the guy in CT, but I had been doing the work here and handing it off to him to sign off on. Now, he's going to have to pick a lot of it up himself and he's not all too happy about it.

So the bottom line is that they will probably be calling me back next week on a temp/part time basis to handle the legal work until they can figure out how to transition it somewhere else (or until I get a full time job somewhere). At least I'll be bringing in some money for a while.
