Oliver Sacks, who's using of anecdotes about patients without their permission I find particularly obnoxious (I'm not alone here; actual neurologists are on record as saying they make a point, unlike Sacks, to get permission of patients to use their stories for pop-market books) has written at length about people whose head injuries gave them talents they previously had no signs of having.

At any rate, I'm glad this book is apparently written by the actual patient here.

Nobody objects to Sacks' writing scientific papers about his patients; and nobody objects to the popular market explanatory stuff he writes where he got the patient's permission; he's just famous for not getting it.

Just finished the book. I really liked the first half where he described his newfound abilities and math concepts related to those and so forth. 2nd half-not so much-This was more "Brain sciency" as he was digging into his diagnosis and I found myself skimming through those pages pretty quickly.
