I received a nice surprise this afternoon - a "Notice of Personnel Action" form indicating that I was receiving a cash bonus on my next paycheck. It will be much appreciated. Presumably this is for my superior performance rating for last year.

Congratulations!
But couldn't they come up with a less menacing name for a bonus than "Notice of Personnel Action"?

It's known as Standard Form 50-B Notice of Personnel Action. It is used for any change in an employee's status - we get one each year when (if) we get a COLA for our salary, or if we get a grade or step increase or if we are reassigned to a different office.
