Sapsucker Woods update

So, already I have a dilemma. Do I post news like this here on the Bored or over on
that other place?
No, I'll post it here.
Christie asked a while back when the Great Blue herons might be returning to Sapsucker Woods, outside Ithaca. I went there this afternoon to check it out. The pond is still frozen over (although it might melt soon, with the warmer weather forecast for this week), so it was no surprise I didn't see any herons. They don't know how to ice fish.
There were some loud Canada Geese, a pair or two of Mallard ducks, and assorted crows, blackbirds, chickadees and so forth, but in general it's still pretty quiet out there. Spring doesn't pay attention to the calendar in Ithaca.

Considering the snow we had this morning, Spring wasn't paying attention to the calendar in CT either.

Dad Heron has been spotted on the nest. The nest needs work, so Ithaca needs a bit of warmer weather so he can get busy on the nest renovation project. New cameras -- three of them! -- have been installed.
I saw Dad's foot myself, so I can confirm that it was him. A couple of other sightings have been made, but nobody is sure if those were travelers passing through or members of the Sapsucker family. The weather is the hold-up. As of tonight, way too much ice remains on the pond. I am hopeful for a day of full sun tomorrow.
Lizbit is keeping a close watch on the situation.

The first confirmation for Dad was Saturday, March 29. The first report of "a heron" was about two weeks ago. Yesterday, somebody reported "a heron chase," which would put at least two herons in the vicinity.

Please continue to post here.
EFB has minions (a software program, prob) that decides which of your EFB friends' bloggish stuff is "interesting" enough to send you. Otherwise, you have to go the to friend's own site, periodically. Unlike, say, usenet newsgroups, on which I internetically grew up, so to speak, or even this board (or a billion other boards), which post topics on which you can click if you are interested. With the prime word in that sentence being "interested".
I much prefer topic headers than some program cherry-picking stuff to throw at me.
May the Ithaca Herons RULE.
