Who beat them, Mr. macrae? I didn't make a bracket for the Canadian basketball championship.

We were the number one seed and lost to the Acadia University Axmen I know you would have been cheering for them because they are from Wolfville a small town in Nova Scotia. Some history about the Acadian area in maritime Canada. Between 1755 and 1763 England and France fought for control of North America with England winning. The French settlers in the maritime area were given a choice of staying under English rule or relocating to what is now Louisiana and at the time the only French area in North America. When they got there they found the French had sold Louisiana to Spain but they stayed there anyway later they became French again under Napoleon and then he sold the territory to the US in 1805. These French from Acadia were the ancestor’s of the present day Cajun’s.

Thank you for the information and this wonderful story, sir. I probably would have cheered for the team from Wolfville, because my ancestors were wolves. I hope the final game was exciting, and I will cheer for your team to win back the title next year.

Do Canadians get as involved in the Canadian championship as Americans do in the NCAA championship?

I know you would have cheered Acadia in the final as they played the Brock Badgers I think badgers are distant cousins of evil squirrels the difference is they eat meat, Brock is in St Catherines Ontario. It is named after a Canadian war hero Sir Isaac Brock.
An interesting story about him is that as a young officer in the English army a professional dueler forced a match on him. As the one being challenged, Brock had his choice of terms, and so he insisted that they fight with pistols. His friends were shocked, as Brock was considered only a moderately good shot, while this man was an expert. Brock, however, refused to change his mind. When the duelist arrived at the field, he asked Brock to decide how many paces they would take. Brock subsequently insisted that the duel would take place, not at the usual range, but at handkerchief distance where both men stood toe-to-toe and both died. The duelist declined and subsequently was forced to leave the regiment. This contributed to Brock's popularity and reputation among his fellow officers, as this duellist had a formidable reputation, and thus bullied other officers without fear of reprisal.

You're right. I wouldn't have cheered for badgers. I've never met one, but I don't think I would like him so much. I hear they are rude.
