WWTBAM Bored

Well the fit has hit the shan and I have just made a lot of people unhappy (some don't know it yet). My division chief came to me and said that she has discovered that other districts aren't calling us when they have database problems and one of the other districts' chiefs said she believed it was her decision as to whether to use her own system administrator or to call us. The operational order under which our unit, the Business Oversight Branch, was created, left no options, so my boss said to revoke the administrator privileges from everyone except the 3 BOB members here. Once that word gets out I'm sure there will be some very unhappy people - the one district chief most of all.

You didn't make anyone unhappy, your division chief did!

Or whoever it was who wrote those operation orders.

So you now have sysadmins who can't administer?

No, because they are no longer sysadmins. That element of their job description was removed when the consolidation occurred. I was the only full-time sysadmin.

Considering that the other sysadmins were calling me for help all the time anyway, it's just as well. The ones who will be bent out of shape by this are the chiefs.

I do now. One of the best things that's happened to me since this consolidation is that I actually have someone with the skill set to do things if I'm gone. She transferred in from Ft. Drum, where she was the sysadmin for their contracting system. She's also a whiz at writing reports. She's quite capable of handling things when I'm out.

Wait, that means I'm no longer indispensable.
