Lyrically Speaking - 3/13/14

#1 Post by Ed Sullivan » Thu Mar 13, 2014 5:29 am

Ladies and gentlemen.... tonight, we have a really big shoe for you! A big Theme Thursday bash! First off, the Amazing Smiler Grogan and his musical sphygmomanometer! Then we will be joined by the legendary rock and roller Elwood Blues... and he better keep it clean this time! We have the hilarious comedy team of Frank and Jessie, who are guaranteed to keep you in stitches. Also, Hottie and her dancing squirrel! And we'll wrap it all up with a spellbinding performance by Melly Geller, who will bend TBone's horns using only the power of her mind! And now, let's get on with the show!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 3 points for the theme....

1. Now, for ten years we've been on our own
And moss grows fat on a rolling stone
But, that's not how it used to be

2. I like you the way you are
When we're driving in your car
And you're talking to me one on one
But you become

3. Foot on the pedal never ever false metal
Engine running hotter than a boiling kettle
My job's ain't a job it's a damn good time
City to city I'm running my rhymes

4. When I'm with you,
It doesn't matter where we are,
Ot what we're doing,
I'm with you that's all that matters

5. I'm with my bebop baby at the union hall
She could dance all night and shake the paint off the walls
When I saw her smile across the crowded room
Well I knew we'd have to leave the party soon
As the band began to play out of tune

6. Cop on the corner, look he's startin' to write
I don't need no ticket so I screamed out of sight,
Drove so fast that my eyes can't see,
Look in the mirror is he still followin' me?

7. She stepped out of the rainbow
Golden hair shinin' like moon glow
Warm lips soft as a soul
Sittin' here by me, she's here by me-ee-ee

8. What I want you've got
And it might be hard to handle
Like the flame that burns the candle
The candle feeds the flame

9. When I look back boy I must have been green
Bopping in the country, fishing in a stream
Looking for an answer trying to find a sign
Until I saw your city lights honey I was blind

10. Mama came to the door with a teardrop in her eye
Johnny said, don't cry, mama
Smile and wave good-bye
Don't you know, yeah yeah

11. OK, talk to you
South America!
Australia!
France!
Germany!
UK!
Africa!

12. You better take it from me, that boy is like a disease
You're running, you're trying, you're trying to hide
And you're wondering why you can't get free

Theme?

If you know the theme, go back and put down how each song relates to the theme for an extra point each.

"Complicated" - Avril Lavigne

Engine running hotter than a boiling kettle

Golden hair shinin' like moon glow
Warm lips soft as a soul
Sittin' here by me, she's here by me-ee-ee

I can hear parts of this song in my head, including the reference to "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", but I can't get it. May never have known the title and artist.

The idea for this game came from an incorrect guess I made at one of Krox's past LS games... which made it somewhat unsurprising that he was one of the two players to figure out the theme to this one. I was hoping to run this game on February 9th... but when I looked at the calendar and saw that was going to be a Sunday, I altered course and decided to make it my final Theme Thursday, as I figured it was my cleverest theme. Then after all the 50th anniversary hoopla passed, I came to the realization that this was probably going to be an easy theme for everyone to get... especially if I created an Ed Sullivan MM to host it. I had begun to wish I had made it a Free For All Friday for that weekend, and come up with another theme game, which wouldn't have been too hard. Of course, as usual, I was most incorrect in my assumptions....
