Pharmaceutical ads

Somebody's got to post something on the Bored, today, so let me start with a grumble about some ads that are airing now.
First, there's the woman who says she's tired about having to explain about her moderate to severe [disease I'd never heard of before they started running the commercial]. Who talks that way? If she has to say anything to anybody, it's just that she has [disease I'd never heard of before they started running the commercial]. OTOH, I guess people who only have a light case of [disease I'd never heard of before they started running the commercial] must be pretty fortunate.
Next, there's that ad for the [testosterone cream] 1.62%. It must be a weird intersection of regulations that limit the strength of the product to exactly 1.62%. with the outlook of advertising people who decide to turn 1.62%. into a marketing campaign. I wonder how many customers they lose, who might not be satisfied with anything less than, say, 1.75%?
There, now I've vented. Carry on.

So when will the birds be returning?
I am so looking forward to anything Spring related. Even losing an hour of sleep was a good thing!

Last year, they came back during the first week of April, but this has been a pretty severe winter, so I wouldn't be surprised if they delay their return a bit longer. I don't know if the ice has even melted off the pond, yet.

Doctors of course hate these ads because they have to spend a lot of time explaining to their patients why the drug isn't appropriate for them.
I don't see why anyone would want to take any of these drugs after hearing the long list of possible side effects, e.g. "may cause sudden death."

It seems that the lead time between a new drug coming out and the ads from lawyers who want to sue for side effects of said drugs has greatly shortened.

I can think of someone who would complain exactly like that, but I can't mention said person in this thread since said person hasn't posted in it yet....

The favorite running gag with my dad and I on these commercials whenever we see one is, "If you experience sudden death, seek medical attention immediately."

I agree. Whenever that particular side effect comes up, I mutter, "Who would take that stuff?" if I'm watching by myself or out loud if I'm watching with someone else.

About three weeks ago ABC World News Tonight had a brief about those ads, saying the FDA was considering reducing the required side effect warnings to the most serious ones. Given that drug companies purchase of the lion's share of World News's ads, such a change would make World News Tonight a much shorter program.

There's a stupid ad on the radio station I listen to right now... starts with someone saying they are blind, and isn't it weird to hear a blind person on the radio. Then goes on talking about how their brain won't shut off at night so they can get some sleep, and calls it Non24... something. Just so stupid! Like blind people have the corner on not being able to sleep.
Oh, and the PAB ads on tv.....
