Pub quiz brag

I've been playing a pub quiz called Live Team Trivia for a little over a year.
http://www.cetrivia.com/
This game has a tournament every few months. Last February my team won the Houston city championship but we didn't do so well in the State final finishing out of the top ten. Last summer we did OK in the tournament but nothing special. This winter we barely scraped out of the City final in 22nd place but that was just good enough to qualify for the State final. We had a rotating cast through the tournament with a different group of people in every round, even I had to miss the City final. So we headed to New Braunfels last Saturday with no real expectations but we finished 2nd in the State out of 56 teams in the final. We lost by 1 point. So close!
This was our state final team. That's me with the cash. The man next to me is my friend Kenny. He was the only person on our team who played in all three rounds of the tournament. He and I play every couple of weeks to earn the points to get into the tournament. The woman in the middle had played this game twice before. The woman holding the envelope had never played before. The woman kneeling came with another team but they already had five players so rather than sit at the bar she joined our team. Quite the hodgepodge but it worked out OK.

Very good! I've been playing here in the Raleigh area (Holly Springs) by myself but coming in first most of the time and second or third the rest. KT posted on Facebook today about driving from Victoria, TX to Corpus Christi to play and doing very well; that's a 1.5 hour drive each way!

So cool!
I play on Tuesdays and Thursdays here in the ArkLaTex Circuit (MidSouth Trivia League). I guess they keep us under the Arkansas umbrella even though both are played on the Texas side of the city. The team I'm on placed 1st in our area Semis and were around 30th at the Finals last weekend in Tunica against 125 teams. We are a fairly new team and had only played for about a month before Semis. I believe most of the teams at Finals were from Arkansas, Mississippi, and Alabama.
I kept telling my group that this first Finals was just for experience, and we had to go through the learning curve before making a statement.

Raleigh? Corpus? That's not the same game is it?
My friend Ken drives an hour each way every other Thursday so we can meet in Humble, TX to play this game. It's 25 minutes for me so it is somewhat in the middle. That's the best we can do. We actually have four people playing on our team there now. We mostly win but there are a few other good teams so it is good competition.
I wish there were more questions in the weekly game but it is a nice change up from Geeks Who Drink. I play that at a couple of places in Houston. It is all over town. There is a new one here called Question One that I want to try.

Congratulations, AJ! I had never heard of that brand of pub quiz. No one has brought it to Austin yet, but I hope some bar gives it a shot. I'm real tired of Geeks Who Drink taking over ever place in town. It's like a cancer, and they're not nearly as funny as they seem to think they are.
I wish I'd known there was a big trivia event in New Braunfels. If anything like that happens again, I'd love to join you. I was just down there recently to see my friend Bri Bagwell play with her band at Gruene Hall. It's an easy drive for me.

No, KT and I don't play the same game but the one I play
is nationwide, Team Trivia (

I thought I had five players (the limit) until we got ready to drive over there. I'll keep you in mind in the future.
Austin is on the website but they don't have any bars doing the game right now. They apparently do the weekly game at the Faust Hotel/Brewery in New Braunfels on Thursday nights. The next state final will probably be in DFW somewhere. They pretty much rotate it.
