Kristie Appelgren, a graduate student at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, enters the Hot Seat on Wednesday.

Appelgren, married to husband Richard, was a contestant on "Wheel of Fortune" four years ago, according to the show's publicist, but she didn't do well -- she kept spinning Bankrupt and Lose a Turn.

"If she won big on "Millionaire," the publicist reported, Appelgren plans to buy a car to replace her 1991 Volvo, which has 330,000 miles, take vacations and attend language schools. "

She should contact the Volvo people with this information, they might use the car as an Ad Prop and give her a new vehicle!
At least she sounds intelligent, I guess grad students are more serious than regular college week frat brats!

It's Preemption Season again on KCAL in L.A., tonight we are missing the show because the LA Kobe's have a preseason workout. I don't mind the inevitable Regular Season preemptions, but why not relegate the preseason workouts to the Laker's Fox Sports Net cable network? Oh well, Laker Fans will sellout Staples Center even if the worst team money can buy loses 50 games this season, which appears likely at this point. I don't really care about the NBA anymore, it seems to be competing with the NDFL (as in dog fighting league) in the category of "gangsta-ism". As Adrian Balboa would say "Go Rocky's!".

Appelgren sat backstage with cotton in her ears and humming, so as not to hear the other contestants' questions. She didn't want to psych herself out or make herself more nervous.

What a horrible waste of the opportunity to get to know her fellow contestants in the green room! That's half the fun of Millionaire.

On my taping day, the one fellow who tried to tune out everyone else succeeded in turning himself into a complete mental case by the time he reached the hot seat.

I didn't know the Knicks were playing their games in LA instead of NY.

You definitely need a Slingbox set up at a non-LA friend's house. I get to watch the nearly never preempted Millionaire feed from KGTV in San Diego this way.

Satellite was definately the "promised land" for me 10 years ago at the early stages of dishnetwork. I actually went to a day game at Dodger Stadium, presuming that ESPn would black it out locally, only to catch the last innings on ESPN's non-LA regional feed when I went home early because the game was a complete and early blow out! Also I had about 20 Local stations and could watch the East Coast Network telecasts. Saw a lot of Letterman/Leno that year at 8:30 PM pacific time. Much easier to stay awake then. LOL! :)

Are you talking about Kevin Smith? He is the only "guy" to win a Million on Synicated Millionaire

Yes, Pea preceded Kevin Smith's run to the million.
