Bridge report

I went up to the Bay Area over the weekend to play a local sectional, primarily because now that I'm employed again, I can afford it and I miss playing with my old partner. On Saturday I played with a young kid (Stanford student) whom I discovered at my local bridge club when he was down for the holidays visiting his grandfather. We had two below-average sessions Saturday. On Sunday, he and his partner for the World Youth Championships in Atlanta teamed with my old regular partner and me for the Open Swiss. We collected more Victory Points in our first six matches than anyone else collected in all seven. That proved to be a good thing, because we got blitzed in our seventh match.
I drove back Sunday night and discovered "Before He Cheats" by Carrie Underwood, which I really enjoy.
Yesterday I played the Charity Game that opened our local regional. I was caught in Jamzilla so I missed the first two boards, and my partner and I didn't have time to go over our card, so we lost one board because he couldn't remember part of our bidding structure. The rest of our game went well, however, capped by my opportunity to successfully run a squeeze against Fred Hamilton on the last board of the session. We ended up winning the event.
The 17 points I've picked up the last two days turned February into a reasonable bridge month for me. I do harbor hopes of winning my Unit's Mini McKenney for the third straight year, and making Gold Life Master this year. I'll be trying to add to my total at the regional on Saturday and Sunday. --Bob
