We took the girls to see Body Worlds at the California Science Center today. I found a movie about the exhibit online and showed them what it was about, because I was concerned that Emma might be squeamish about the dead bodies.

We all enjoyed the exhibit. Some of the "artier" exhibits were strange to look at, but the exhibit certainly made me think. There were a lot of split apart penises, almost as if the plastination people had something against the penis. The expelled fetuses were interesting. At nine weeks, a fetus is about an inch long, but you can see the detail of the fingers.
I am going to spoiler the images because some might find them disconcerting.

Humm. I've seen Bodies at the South Street Seaport in the city. What you saw is similar in preparation but looks more artistic. I'd have to see the whole thing to fairly judge it, but I think I'd prefer the more scientific display I've seen.

At the end of the exhibit, there were cards to fill out so that people can donate their bodies when they die.

Lizbit says that's what my back looked like when my skin fell off. She thought it was scary.
I wasn't scared, though, and neither was that nice mastiff I met at the hospital.

Body Worlds was here in St. Louis for about 10 years.
Actually, it only seems like it was in town for 10 years. I think it came here in October or November, and I didn't think it would ever leave...

When it was at the Franklin Institute in Philly, it was a lot more scientifically presented as well.
They must tailor it for their audience...and since they know California is full of hedonistic "lib'ruhl" pinko commies...

It was scientifically presented, there was a lot of information the heart, but every so often there would be a strange "artistic" pose that really just made you stop and look. It was beautiful, macabre and just plain odd.
There were a lot of school groups attending the exhibition, along with some students from a nursing school. As a physician, Jeff was sent a free pass to the exhibit and they gave discounts to nurses.
