Lyrically Speaking - 2/13/14
Posted: Thu Feb 13, 2014 5:30 am
Good morning, fans of our Bored's national pastime. As I enter the sixteeth year of my promised retirement as commissioner of this fine musical institution, I can't help but reflect on the many wonderful things I have brought to the fine sport of Lyrically Speaking. I have added David "Fatass" Wells points to help bridge the gap between the have and have nots, giving players like Marley just as good a chance of winning as Esto. I have adopted the designated player to increase scoring and ensure that Bob and smiler will never have to come to the plate in LSWE. I have internationalized the game, which has drawn players from far off lands like Saucy in Canada and Jessie from Uranus. I have unilaterally declared that Weasel's uniform number 9 would be retired throughout the game in perpetuity, and that every year on the anniversary of his airdate, all LSWE players will take the field wearing 9 to honor his accomplishments. And I have brought labor peace to the game, as there has never been a game stoppage in the LSWE on my watch. And now, I am proud to introduce instant replay to the LSWE, which will extend each game on and on for days! Yeah, I'll still be commissioner of the LSWE even after my head ends up in a jar.... get used to me, suckas!
Today, I would like to present to you the time honored tradition of Theme Thursday, assembled by one of my famous blue ribbon panels. And it's a promotional date as well, as there will be post-game matching of the songs into pairs! Ah, you can't beat fun at the old internet!
1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 3 points for the theme, 1 point for each correct match...
1. Where you going
What you looking for
You know those boys
Don't want to play no more with you
It's true
2. Face to face, out in the heat
Hangin' tough, stayin' hungry
They stack the odds
Still we take to the street
For the kill with the skill to survive
3. See you're the kinda person
That believes in makin' out once
Love 'em and leave 'em fast
4. I've never seen a diamond in the flesh
I cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies
And I'm not proud of my address,
In the torn-up town, no post code envy
5. I'm not surprised.
Not everything lasts.
I've broken my heart so many times I stopped keeping track.
Talk myself in.
I talk myself out.
I get all worked up, then I let myself down.
6. I met all the girls and loved myself a few
Ended by surprise
Like everything else I've been through
It opened up my eyes
7. Zephyr in the sky at night I wonder
Do my tears of mourning sink beneath the sun
She's got herself a universe gone quickly
For the call of thunder threatens everyone
8. Well he's tellin' us this
And he's tellin' us that
Changes it every day
Say's it doesn't matter
9. Cryin' on my pillow
Lonely in my bed
Then I heard a voice beside me
And she softly said
10. You can be amazing
You can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug
You can be the outcast
Or be the backlash of somebody's lack of love
11. My apartment looks upside down from there
Water spirals the wrong way out the sink
And her voice is a backwards record
It's like a whirlpool and it never ends
12. She's a vision form coast to coast (Coast to coast)
Sea to shining sea (Sea to shining sea)
Hey, sister you're the perfect host (Make a toast)
