The former Good Golly Miss Molly has been renamed

Out of Right Field: A Baseball Story

and we are looking at a late summer release date. Here's the back jacket write up:

Twelve-year-old April O'Day's summer has gotten off to a flying start. As the new bat retriever for the Harpoons, her hometown's minor league team, she's fetching bats and doling out great advice to players and coaches alike. In a word, she's becoming indispensable. But mysterious things are happening at Haney Field, which April and her best friend—and fellow baseball enthusiast—Darren Plummer are determined to uncover. As they quickly learn, this is no ordinary season. In fact, it's a whole new ball game.

No Ordinary Season: A Baseball Mystery
Don't tell anyone the book's been renamed. That way you may get people to double dip.

That's what we call marketing.

Thanks, skoop!

Hey, I thought of you and your mom when I wrote this scene:

The national anthem came next, and I stood on the top step with the players and the coaches, holding my cap over my heart as a mother and daughter delivered a rousing rendition of the song together. When they finished, the Harpoons took the field to start the top of the first inning.

That is one of our favorite experiences. The drunk rednecks waved their chicken bones at us as we left the field, and yelled, "Good job on the anthem!" Mom smiled and said thanks, and under her breath, "Please don't touch us."

I think the renaming is a good idea in this case. The new title does a much better job drawing me in than did the old title. --Bob

Bored Novel V, I believe. One of the few that was completed (to use the term loosely).

It took place at the home of the Toledo Mudhens.

Do books ever get paid product placements like movies do? Has your agent tried to sell naming rights to Haney Field? Good luck!

And we have a new title. The graphic artist could not make No Ordinary Season look like a kid's book, so we changed the title to

Out of Right Field: A Baseball Story

The cover is nearly ready. Look for the big reveal soon.

I guarantee this one will be better than Center Point (not exactly a high bar, I know).

That's the (commercial) point of a title. To get people to pick up the book and start reading it. --Bob

Try renaming one of your books "50 Shades of Gray." Then if someone complains, you can point out that yours is spelled differently....

And we have yet another title.

I will reveal it when I reveal the cover.

It's almost ready.
