An interminable three verses of the Soviet, I mean Russian national anthem.
Does anybody else find it ironic that it was sung by the Sochi Gay Men's Chorus?

No, because yours is the first statement I've heard to that effect. I just Googled it to confirm, and found nothing. Or was that a joke?

It was beautiful. Perhaps you forgot to open your mind and ears while you watched!

Loved it! The ballet section for the War and Peace theme was beautiful. The special effects for the floor was incredible. This opening ceremony was one of my all time favorites. The singer for the Olympic hymn was great.

Anthem was sung by an order of Russian monks dressed all in tuxes. This is the usual attire of the various gay men's choruses here in the US (whose performances I often attend), but I can see how this reference might be lost on folks unfamiliar with the genre.

You're saying when you see a group of men in tuxes you assume they're gay?

I am guessing the performer in the middle is getting an assist to sing tenor (or is that soprano??) based on the position of the tail (which at first glance didn't look like it was a tail...) from the performer on stage right!

My quick internet search failed to discover such an abomination, which surprised me a bit. I will stay away from any Freudian analysis of such a thing.
