Non-Foul Out Helps Lakers Win Game

The Los Angeles Lakers took advantage of a little known NBA rule to avoid finishing tonight's game against Cleveland with only four players and held on to beat the Cavaliers 119-108. Due to injuries, the Lakers started the game with only eight players in uniform, the NBA minimum. Two more players were injured during the game, and another player fouled out, leaving the Lakers with five players. Then, with 3:31 left in the game, Robert Sacre picked up his sixth foul. However, under NBA rules, a team can't play with less than five players (in college, a team can continue the game with as few as two players). Instead of fouling out, Sacre stayed in the game (the Lakers were assessed a technical foul. If he had received any more fouls, the Lakers would have been assessed additional technical fouls. The Lakers won the game in part by hitting a franchise record 18 3-pointers.
