George Zimmerman to Be Celebrity Boxer

I thought celebrity boxing matches were ancient history, but apparently at least one promoter thinks there's still a market and has signed George Zimmerman for a March 1 fight against an as-yet unnamed opponent. Something tells me there will be a long line of people wanting to sign up to take a legal swing at George. I'm sure they will insist he be searched for weapons before entering the ring. Proceeds are to go to charity.

George says he has boxing experience:
Boxing isn't new to me. It's something I had picked up well before the incident and it's something that I liked, I enjoyed,
George may be positioning himself for a career as a professional wrestler. He's that rare individual who can be a face (good guy) in some parts of the country, like BiT's neck of the woods, and a heel in other, more urban areas.

The celebrity boxing match between Zimmerman and rapper DMX has been called off. Apparently some people didn't like the idea and threatened the promoter.

As a casual boxing fan, I find celebrity boxing (no matter who) to be more a sideshow than something worth watching. It's often as mismatched and one-sided as a goalie fight in ice hockey.

If anyone remembers when Fox ran some primetime bouts about 15 years ago (Joey Buttafusco and Tanya Harding fought -- not each other, of course -- among others) and, let's face it, it was no DWTS.
