Lyrically Speaking - 1/30/14

#1 Post by PrinceOfInsufficientLight » Thu Jan 30, 2014 5:57 am

Greetings, everyone. You know the theme is going to be lame when LB is dragging out dusty old MM's like myself who have been hidden in the coff... er, closet for years. But I was summoned today to host the traditional Theme Thursday game that has been in all six previous incarnations of the LSVE. Good luck trying to play with the illumination sufficiently dimmed... and vatch those necks!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 3 points for the theme....

1. Seems I've got to have a change of scene
'Cause ev'ry night I have the strangest dreams;
Imprisoned by the way it could have been,
Left here on my own or so it seems.

2. And now at last we plainly see
We'll have a dance of Liberty
Liberty!

3. Yeah, this was your city
You did it all and more, broke every law except for one, babe
Attraction, are you ready I know you feel it
Pull you nearer 'til you feel it again, oh

4. Wild things can't be tamed
Under my skin it's just the same
Waiting to be ignited
And there's no way I'll ever fight it
'Cause I don't know any better
No I don't know when it's time to stop

5. There's a pale moon in the sky
The kind you make your wishes on
Like the light in your eyes
The one I built my dreams upon

6. Though we had our fling
I just never would suspect a thing
Till that little bell began to ring
in my head
In my head

7. You called me strong
You called me weak
But still your secrets I will keep
You took for granted
All the times I never let you down

8. Time was drifting, this rock had got to roll
So I hit the road and made my getaway
Restless feeling, really got a hold
I started searching for a better way

9. So I said goodbye
To all my friends
And packed my hopes
Inside a matchbox
Cause I know it's time to fly

10. I got the number and it starts to ring
I get excited and I start to dream
I start to fantasize of memory lane
Then she answers and she says right way

11. The floors are all made out of wood.
The price is sure worth the admission.
Dreams of the drifters die hard, yall.
Bodies dance through the dark to submission.

12. When he got tired of dancing alone
He'd look in the mirror, he'd say
Gotta find a woman
Gotta find a woman
Gotta find a woman
Gotta find a woman

Theme?

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that fits the theme of today's game.

Mecca Bonus: One of these songs has been on the Mecca CD. Which number? (1 possible point)

5 Point Bonus: In a famous early 80's TV ad for Miller Lite, what celebrity lost his team's bowling match in the final frame when he couldn't knock down even one pin?

No krox bonus today? Cause I would've said "Let's Go Fly a kite" from the Mary Poppins soundtrack, sung by David Tomlinson and Karen Dotrice and others. Which not only rhymes with Prince of Insufficient Light, it doesn't use the same word as any of your other answers (at least I hope not, since I didn't know about half of them).

Spoiler
Well, where has the time gone? For a busy (and popular) squirrel like me, it's red carpet events and lunches with some of the most beautiful people in the world. Such is the life.

Anyway, time to wow everyone with my musical skilz:

1. Seems I've got to have a change of scene
'Cause ev'ry night I have the strangest dreams;
Imprisoned by the way it could have been,
Left here on my own or so it seems.

I had a strange dream last night, too. Squirrel Ives asked me to come over to his place for a drink. I couldn't find him until he yelled out "Come scrub my back!"
Image
Okay, more of a nightmare.

2. Black and White - Three Dog Night

3. Yeah, this was your city
You did it all and more, broke every law except for one, babe
Attraction, are you ready I know you feel it
Pull you nearer 'til you feel it again, oh

Talk about your lawbreakers. After a three-day bender with Lindsey Squirrelhan, we were as tight as can be. Then she threw up on the bed and I was like "I'm outta here, girlfriend."
Image

4. Wild things can't be tamed
Under my skin it's just the same
Waiting to be ignited
And there's no way I'll ever fight it
'Cause I don't know any better
No I don't know when it's time to stop

So after the Globes, I asked my latest wild thing Jennifer Squirrelrence if she wanted red wine or white. And she was all:
Image
Waiting to be ignited, indeed

5. There's a pale moon in the sky
The kind you make your wishes on
Like the light in your eyes
The one I built my dreams upon

I once flew to Africa to go on a safari with my close, personal friend James Squirrel Jones. I brought home a lifetime of memories. He brought home this:
Image

6. Though we had our fling
I just never would suspect a thing
Till that little bell began to ring
in my head
In my head

Last time I saw Squirrelly MacLaine I had to tell her "Our fling is over, babe. Time to move on."
Image
Then she threw nuts at me, which was awesome because she throws like a girl and at least I got a snack out of it.

7. You called me strong
You called me weak
But still your secrets I will keep
You took for granted
All the times I never let you down

Boy, the secrets I could reveal if I were so inclined. Well, okay maybe one. Did you know rocker Ick Jagger really died years ago and Billy Bored Thornton has been impersonating ever since. Really!
Image

8. Couldn't See the Light - Exile

9. So I said goodbye
To all my friends
And packed my hopes
Inside a matchbox
Cause I know it's time to fly

I rue the day my good buddy Alex Squirrelbeck has to "fly the Jeopardy! coop." He won't take the news well:
Image

10. I got the number and it starts to ring
I get excited and I start to dream
I start to fantasize of memory lane
Then she answers and she says right way

Ahh yes, memory lane. Like when I beat Earl “The Squirrel” Monroe in a game of N-U-T-S at the NBA all-star game. You can still see the rage:
Image

12. When she got tired of dancing alone
She'd look in the mirror, she'd say
Gotta find a squirrel
Gotta find a squirrel
Gotta find a squirrel
Gotta find a squirrel
Here I am, baby!
