WWTBAM Bored

Last night elwing and I got to babysit our grandson while our son attended classes (he's going back to school in the evenings to get a degree in accounting). I had forgotten what it was like to entertain an infant (it's been 23 years since we had a baby in the house). The smell of sour milk, walking around jostling the baby to keep him quiet, changing diapers - it was wonderful. It looks like we're going to be doing this on a regular basis, which suits me just fine. Of course I may not be so enamoured when Caden decides to fuss, or once he starts ambulating (crawling, then walking). Time to start thinking about childproofing the house.

I don't so much love babies.

I love talking two-footers, especially when they are just starting to think and wonder. I love the questioning ones - when they start asking 'why?' - I love watching their minds work.

I get my turn with a 2 1/2 month old tonight. He's spending the night. I hope we both get some sleep. I'm being optimistic and predict we
will. He was a real charmer on Saturday and a perfect little angel.

I like babies between the ages of four and nine months. They sleep through the night and are beginning to really interact with the world around them. They aren't quite walking yet, so it's easier to keep an eye on them.

Can you come talk to my in-laws?

My son asks "why" all the time...and they make no bones about showing how annoyed they get by that....which, of course, really annoys me.

But they are old school types who believe children should be "seen and not heard".

I talk pretty straight to people. Some take offense, others, find it refreshing.

I promise not to tell them to bite me.
