Lyrically Speaking - 1/28/14

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Tue Jan 28, 2014 7:33 am

Brrrrrrr.. it's colder than a well digger's tit with brass balls outside! But I've thrown the cats in the furnace, and I've almost thawed out enough now to post today's Tuesday Wordplay game. You will soon see that the idea for this game obviously came to me during the daytime....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist....

1. Now I'm towing my car, there's a hole in the roof
My possessions are causing me suspicion but there's no proof

2. We drove to Cali
And got drunk on the beach
Got a motel and
Built a fort out of sheets
I finally found you
My missing puzzle piece
I'm complete

3. I felt so good
Like anything was possible
Hit cruise control
And rubbed my eyes

4. Though the dawn may be coming soon
There still may be some time
Fly me away to the bright side of the moon
And meet me on the other side

5. Someday, I don't know how
I hope she'll hear my plea
Some way, I don't know how
She'll bring her love to me

6. Not so long ago we were so in phase
You and I could never forget the days
But then the fire seemed to flicker
Cold wind came and it carried us away
But well get back someday, baby

7. Stars shining bright above you
Night breezes seem to whisper I love you
Birds singing in the sycamore tree

8. Cause they're waiting for me
They're looking for me
Every single night
They're driving me insane
Those men inside my brain

9. Ah böwakawa poussé, poussé
Ah böwakawa poussé, poussé
Ah böwakawa poussé, poussé

10. Half my life
is books written pages
live and love from fools and
from sages
You know it's true

11. First night, so long
A state of mind
What can go wrong
We're here, the time is right
To rock 'n' roll
Right through the night

12. I was at the top and I was like I'm at the basement.
Number one spot and now she found her a replacement.
I swear now I can't take it, knowing somebody's got my baby.

My possessions are causing me suspicion but there's no proof

Dream On - Aerosmith, the most over-rated band in rock history

2. We drove to Cali

Dream a Little Dream - Mamas and Papas. I hear this song often... My daughter is on a synchronized skating team and one of the teams that her team competes against starts with this song while they wear their black and pink outfits. Midway through the program, the music turns nightmarish and their outfits change to all black. It's a clever routine. Unfortunately for them, the judges don't seem to think a lot of their skating. Oh well....

Of the ones I know, Crowded House makes the most sense lyrics-wise, although I don't think of it as a very sports-y song. But that's my guess. Don't Dream it's Over, final answer.

Since there are people who are still confused by the Stumblebum, I'm going with something more obvious....
Spoiler
1. Now I'm towing my car, there's a hole in the roof
My possessions are causing me suspicion but there's no proof

Don't Dream It's Over - Simply Red

2. We drove to Cali
And got drunk on the beach
Got a motel and
Built a fort out of sheets
I finally found you
My missing puzzle piece
I'm complete

Teenage Dream - Katy Perry

I've never actually paid any attention to the verses of this song, but I'm extrapolating from context...ha!

3. I felt so good
Like anything was possible
Hit cruise control
And rubbed my eyes

Running Down a Dream - Tom Petty

4. Though the dawn may be coming soon
There still may be some time
Fly me away to the bright side of the moon
And meet me on the other side

Dream Weaver - Gary Wright

This is one of those songs that take me to a specific place and time. I think weed was involved (isn't it always?)...

5. Someday, I don't know how
I hope she'll hear my plea
Some way, I don't know how
She'll bring her love to me

Dream Lover - Bobby Darin

Or is it James Darren? He was Moondoggie while Darin was married to Sandra Dee, right? I always get them confused. The Kevin Spacey one...

6. Not so long ago we were so in phase
You and I could never forget the days
But then the fire seemed to flicker
Cold wind came and it carried us away
But well get back someday, baby

7. Stars shining bright above you
Night breezes seem to whisper I love you
Birds singing in the sycamore tree

Dream a Little Dream of Me - Cass Elliott

I'm almost sure this was the Mamas and the Papas, but since it's an almost I'm going chickenshit and invoking Ozzy....

8. Cause they're waiting for me
They're looking for me
Every single night
They're driving me insane
Those men inside my brain

Dream Police - Cheap Trick

If it wasn't so late, I'd drag out the LP but I think my model is upstairs on the zebra sheets getting her beauty sleep...

9. Ah böwakawa poussé, poussé
Ah böwakawa poussé, poussé
Ah böwakawa poussé, poussé

#9 Dream - John Lennon

10. Half my life
is books written pages
live and love from fools and
from sages
You know it's true

Dream On - Aerosmith

Ain't that a coinkidink points: I listened to Sing for the Moment today and was thinking it would be a great bonus question on what Eminem song did he sample Dream On. If that's the bonus question, then I win double supermax. Whee!!!!!1

11. First night, so long
A state of mind
What can go wrong
We're here, the time is right
To rock 'n' roll
Right through the night

12. I was at the top and I was like I'm at the basement.
Number one spot and now she found her a replacement.
I swear now I can't take it, knowing somebody's got my baby.

Just a Dream - N****

Well, I was planning on kroxing Jimmy Clanton's Just a Dream and I can't believe that I didn't think of this one since it's actually a really good song. I think this was the first one of his that I liked since Country Grammar.

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that contains the magic word of the day.

A Kiss to Build a Dream On - Louis Armstrong

5 Point Bonus: Which of these songs was used by ESPN's SportsCenter for a montage of 20th Century sports highlights on the December 31, 1999 show?

Dream On

I was going to say Don't Dream It's Over as in the 1900s, but the lyrics would be a weird choice for sports highlights. Of the ones I know were pre-1999, Dream On lyrics seem to fit the best. Say, do you know that Eminem used Dream On for a sample (avec M. Tyler) on one of his songs?????
