Death in the family - prayer request

#1 Post by mellytu74 » Fri Jan 10, 2014 1:41 pm

Many of the older Jipters/BBs will doubtless recall the stories of our annual trip to Union County, NJ, for Thanksgiving with my cousin Hugh, his wife Joanne and their kids. One of the highlights of TLAF's year, back when she was able to travel.

Yesterday, Joanne's 61YO brother had a heart attack/stroke/seizure and plowed his SUV into the lot and front window of Piazza Honda in Limerick, PA.

And, yes, THAT Piazza.

He died at the hospital of his injuries.

Steve was a wonderful, funny guy. His wife, Margie, is a doll. I really like them both.

How will they tell Joanne's 97 YO dad? Can they?

Anyway, please think good thoughts for Margie and Joanne.

Thanks.

When my cousin died, no-one told their father, my uncle, because he had Alzheimers, & couldn't even remember a lot of the time that his wife had died years earlier. So he'd say "where's (name of either wife or child here)?" & people would just distract him.

If this is something that would kill the 97-year-old man if he heard it, why tell him. I generally believe in the truth, but not if it will literally kill someone.

In my uncle's case it could have, but the likelier possibility was that other family members would just have to repeat the sad story over & over again, because of my uncle's memory problems.

My condolences as well, Melly.

The local newspaper ran a front page article and has more information.
Students, community mourn teacher killed in crash

LIMERICK — A community is in mourning after beloved teacher died Thursday afternoon in a motor vehicle crash.

Stephen Bruno, 61, of Spring City was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the Pottstown Memorial Medical Center, police said Thursday.

He died of a heart attack, according to the Montgomery County coroner’s office.
...
“Bruno, as we called him, was one of the kindest guys you’d meet in the halls and always had a smile on his face,” said Pottstown resident Craig Endy.

Endy was a student of Bruno’s from 2008 to 2010. He said Bruno was an exceptionally knowledgeable teacher because he owned his own repair shop and could rely on his real-world experience to help the students learn.

But for Endy, his teacher was not only dedicated to his craft, he showed genuine concern for his students well-being.

“I still remember a day at lunch he saw a student that didn’t have lunch and reached into his own pocket and gave the student money to buy food,” Endy said.
