Lyrically Speaking - 1/8/14

#1 Post by The Shithouse Rats » Wed Jan 08, 2014 7:43 am

One bad thing about playing in a band is that most people have no idea who you are. You think anybody out there can name our drummer or our bass player? Hell, even the groupies think they're a bunch of nobodies. The only way to get people to know your name in a band is to get yourself a shoutout in one of your songs. It worked for these groups... all of the songs below contain one or more of the group members in the lyrics, and those particular snippets have been provided. That might help you with the artist... if (sigh) anyone knew the members of the band to begin with. You know what... I'm beginning to think we don't like Wacky Wednesdays either....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. Make up, break up, everything is shake up
Guess it had to be that way
Sebastian and Zal formed the Spoonful
Michelle, John, and Denny gettin' very tuneful

2. I gotta be cool relax
Get hip and get on my tracks
Take a back seat, hitch-hike
And take a long ride on my motor bike
Until I'm ready (ready Freddie)

3. Are you ready, Steve? Aha.
Andy? Yeah! Mick? OK.
Alright, fellas, let's go!

4. Hi, yo yea yea.
This is Wyclef refugee
El boogie up in here...
Rise well, little
While I'm on this I got my girl L one time! one time!
Hey yo L you know you got the lyrics!

5. M.C.A. with the bottle
D. rocks the can
Adrock gets nice with
Charlie Chan

6. And though my friends just might ask me
They say, Martin, maybe one day you'll find true love
I say, maybe, there must be a solution
To the one thing, the one thing we can't find

7. C.C.!
Pick a bad guitar, and-a-talk to me, yeah

8. OK, Bobby, let's go!
'Cause a friend will always be there
If you're wrong or if you're right

9. Hey, Jesse
Now, Jerome, yes
Oh, ee, oh, ee, oh
Check it out

10. Scratch it, Carl, scratch it, baby
Right over there.
Down a little lower.
Down a little lower

11. Hey, Tommy
Check that out, man
What, Vince, where
Right there

12. Cynthia & Jerry got a message they're sayin':
All the squares, go home!

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that mentions a member of the band in the lyrics, and provide the particular lyric snippet for an extra point.

Mecca Bonus: 2 of the songs above have been on the Mecca CD. Which song numbers? (3 possible points)

5 Point Bonus: Which of the songs above was the batting intro music for Ryan Ludwick (the last non-ES rendered avatar I ever had) during his entire tenure with the St. Louis Cardinals from 2007-2010?

One bad thing about playing in a band is that most people have no idea who you are. You think anybody out there can name our drummer or our bass player? Hell, even the groupies think they're a bunch of nobodies. The only way to get people to know your name in a band is to get yourself a shoutout in one of your songs. It worked for these groups... all of the songs below contain one or more of the group members in the lyrics, and those particular snippets have been provided. That might help you with the artist... if (sigh) anyone knew the members of the band to begin with. You know what... I'm beginning to think we don't like Wacky Wednesdays either....

1. Make up, break up, everything is shake up
Guess it had to be that way
Sebastian and Zal formed the Spoonful
Michelle, John, and Denny gettin' very tuneful
Creeque Alley - Mamas & the Papas

2. I gotta be cool relax
Get hip and get on my tracks
Take a back seat, hitch-hike
And take a long ride on my motor bike
Until I'm ready (ready Freddie)
Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Queen

3. Are you ready, Steve? Aha.
Andy? Yeah! Mick? OK.
Alright, fellas, let's go!
Ballroom Blitz - Sweet

4. Hi, yo yea yea.
This is Wyclef refugee
El boogie up in here...
Rise well, little
While I'm on this I got my girl L one time! one time!
Hey yo L you know you got the lyrics!
Killing Me Softly - Fugees (There is a radio edit of this song that doesn't contain this spoken part between the opening and the first verse... but my variety station played the "one time, one time!" version...)

5. M.C.A. with the bottle
D. rocks the can
Adrock gets nice with
Charlie Chan
Brass Monkey - Beastie Boys

6. And though my friends just might ask me
They say, Martin, maybe one day you'll find true love
I say, maybe, there must be a solution
To the one thing, the one thing we can't find
The Look of Love - ABC

7. C.C.!
Pick a bad guitar, and-a-talk to me, yeah
Talk Dirty To Me - Poison

8. OK, Bobby, let's go!
'Cause a friend will always be there
If you're wrong or if you're right
I Wonder What She's Doing Tonight - Boyce & Hart (The only song I included in this game that wasn't really a "band"... and it opened the door for some of your Kroxes....)

9. Hey, Jesse
Now, Jerome, yes
Oh, ee, oh, ee, oh
Check it out
Jungle Love - Morris Day & the Time

10. Scratch it, Carl, scratch it, baby
Right over there.
Down a little lower.
Down a little lower
Barbara Ann - Beach Boys

11. Hey, Tommy
Check that out, man
What, Vince, where
Right there
Girls, Girls, Girls - Motley Crue (Esto chimes in with the first Annie Bonus of the year!)

12. Cynthia & Jerry got a message they're sayin':
All the squares, go home!
Dance To The Music - Sly & the Family Stone

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that mentions a member of the band in the lyrics, and provide the particular lyric snippet for an extra point. - There were a lot of Kroxes for songs by solo artists, which were fine so long as they had the "shoutout" (though I didn't really intend for the shoutout to be reflexive), but there were a couple I could not accept, instead awarding a token JJC point for effort...

Mecca Bonus: 2 of the songs above have been on the Mecca CD. Which song numbers? (3 possible points)

#2 - Crazy Little Thing Called Love (On the first CD from last winter)
#10 - Barbara Ann (On the summer CD, which was very, very heavy on Beach Boys. You have been warned!)

5 Point Bonus: Which of the songs above was the batting intro music for Ryan Ludwick (the last non-ES rendered avatar I ever had) during his entire tenure with the St. Louis Cardinals from 2007-2010? - #5, Brass Monkey!... and I've pointed this out pretty much every time either the song or Ludwick have come up on this Bored. It's the best batting intro music for any player ever!
