Book of Mormon (musical)

Saw it last night on the tour.

I was not offended but I wasn't ... moved, I guess is the word.

I liked it, but I didn't understand the 9 Tonys. Maybe one Tony for Audacity would have sufficed. I'd have to see what they were competing against to make a better ruling.

I liked most of the music, and the ways in which it paid homage to/ripped off The King and I, The Sound of Music, and The Lion King.

I liked the choreography a lot, especially the trick with the vests in "Turn It Off". The best explanation I found is that it's a miracle.

I dunno, I just didn't get all the excitement, besides it being raunchy. That's not enough.

I have the cast recording, but haven't seen it. The short answer is that it was a weak year.

I saw a lot of speculation that having 2 nominated lead actors probably split votes and handed that Tony to Butz.

Butz was pretty good in the first run on Wicked; I'm fine with him winning.

The other nominees for Best Musical were Scottsboro Boys, Catch Me If You Can, and Sister Act. I saw Sister Act - it was not Best Musical material, though it was truly delightful. I presume Scottsboro Boys was too much history for Best Musical. So yeah, a weakish year.

I had a guy tell me that he thought I would make a great Elder Cunningham. Two problems: 1) I'm way too old to be playing a Mormon missionary, and 2) I'm a baritone, and the part is clearly a tenor.

Wow. Scottsboro Boys had 12 nominations and zero awards.
