Things that suck

Finding a very clean used car with a spotless Carfax report (one owner, lots of maint. records, no accidents), buying that car for your daughter, her being very happy and proud of a car that is now hers, and 10 hours before she's had it a full week and with the paper plates still on, someone pulls out of a driveway and hits her on the way to school.
She's fine.
The boy that hit her is insured.
Car had to be towed because the radiator cracked, but otherwise damage limited to right front quarter (I think). Going to the body shop in the morning to view the damage.

Things that don't suck...
She is okay.
I am so glad to see that part!

Yeah, what Christie said.
Car wrecks suck, no question. But when you pull back a little and start thinking about things like, 'What if he's been driving just a little faster?"
Glad she is OK.

I'm glad she's okay.
Did the airbags go off? My Explorer was totalled by the insurance company after I hit a deer in Oklahoma two years ago even though the front end damage was not too bad only because the air bags tore up the interior so much it was too expensive to repair.

Airbag did not deploy thankfully. And hopefuuly both drivers will now be more careful, diligent, less trusting of other drivers and those traits will stay with them for many many years and save them from any real tragedy.

Wow. I'm so glad no-one was hurt; that's the important thing. Well, you didn't report on the kid that hit her, but I'm assuming he's OK (aside from being a very bad driver).
60 Minutes, I think, did a recent report on CarFax. Whoever did the report, they found cases where CarFax was fooled but some other car-reporting service wasn't. The best check is done by local trusted mechanics; I once had mine tell me a car had been in a rear-end collision they owner hadn't documented for me (either this was in the days before CarFax or I hadn't gotten their report). There are things a mechanic will look for that you would miss, unless you are a mechanic.
And I'm periodically mourning the dings my neighbors & fellow-supermarket-parking-lot users are putting on my previously almost-undinged car. The only one who left a note is the person who hit the mirror, & they (well, their employer) actually paid for that one. At least I wasn't in the car & driving when any of the dingers hit my car.
