that there will be NO TREE for Christmas this year.
It would be the red flag to the bull, to the BoyZ
Scooter has already learned, that if he jumps up juuuuust right, he can turn on the wall light, and Java attempts to push me out of bed in the mornings, to get fooooooood.
What have I wrought?

Nice!
But why does Java need to push you? If the light's on, it's obviously time to get up and fix breakfast.

I would miss not having a tree.
When we moved to our new house (9 years ago I think) my husband didn't want a tree. Seems what he really didn't want was a live one. So I relented and had an artificial one. It doesn't look bad.
Doesn't quite smell the same though.

I long ago discovered that I have to have any available dirt showing in my plants covered by rocks or whoever is the current cat (this thought occurred to several in succession) will think "how nice! She gave me some soil to pee in!". Their little delicate feet would rather climb in gravel from the store in their box than clamber over oddly shaped, some-pointy rocks.
And, of course, plants hanging above their heads are just a big "how high can I jump; will climbing on that help?; I'll have to jump & sail a little too" challenge.
Right now I have no plants. Well, I have the skeleton of the dead rubber tree that died at something like 30 years. But I don't celebrate Christmas (not my holiday, not bah-humbug or anything) so no suggestions please.

When I and my then wife moved here 30 years ago and adopted two cats we quickly found that we needed to replace our glass Christmas tree ornaments with wooden ones.

Christmases past we've had kittehs perched midtree daring us to pull them out. Labrador tails are also excellent ornament demolishers.

New Zealand Sheep Dog tails work well too --- on
everything below 30".

When I lived in DC, there wasn't room in my basement apartment for a tree. But I had a FABULOUS fireplace and mantle. I would put fresh garland across the mantle and place ornaments on the garland.
And then I would move the chair that spent most of the year next to the fireplace to the other side of the room, so that Norman could not climb the chair to touch said ornaments.
He never bothered to try and climb the tea cart where TLAF's artificial tree was each year.
Denise is too invested in the actual decorating process to ever touch the finished tree. She inspects, sniffs and indicates which ornament goes on next. She is my sidekick.

Today I have made this same decision. The Wonder Twins tore it down last year, and this year they began climbing and pulling almost before I could get it up.
