Contestant from early Meredith days

#1 Post by FlameMoth » Fri Nov 22, 2013 7:22 am

I'm trying to get a video of a particular contestant from Meredith's early days, possibly season 1 or 2. All I remember is she was quite eccentric, and got pretty far up the tree. She confidently gave an answer to a top-tier question, only to have Meredith tell her she was wrong, and then cut to commercial immediately without getting any follow-up reaction from her (presumably because she did not take it well). Does anybody know who I'm talking about?

I don't know--that's a fairly vague description. You're not thinking of Kati Knudson, by any chance, who was a primetime contestant with Regis?

I remember the contestant, although I cannot recall her name. Older lady who wore the same sweater she had worn on Jeopardy years earlier. When she crashed, the show cut abruptly to Meredith, who appeared visibly shaken and said nothing more than "we'll be right back". As I recall, contemporary accounts claimed that the contestant unloaded on Meredith, calling her a bitch and accusing her of steering her to the wrong answer...none of which made it on camera, of course; my guess is that Meredith's perfunctory wrap-up came after the contestant's tirade.

Wow...just...wow!! Must have been prior to my bored days, I don't recall hearing of this.

IIRC the question asked where the Petronas Towers were located (I think she answered Singapore). She answered relatively quickly and was told she was wrong and from what I've read on the internet, she didn't take it well.

She was from Skokie.

And her name just came to me: Merle Glickman. I ran a YouTube search, but all I could find was this brief snippet:

I was in the audience for that episode. Meryl screamed at Meredith something to the effect of "Why didn't you slow me down?" She didn't curse at her, but it came off as being highly disrespectful.
