Center Point is now available!

#1 Post by Vandal » Thu Nov 21, 2013 12:09 pm

It officially goes live tomorrow, but the links are up:

The best place to buy a paperback is Createspace

Kindle version from Amazon

Nook version from B&N

Other e-versions are on Smashwords

If you really must have a paperback from Amazon, it's here.
Amazon takes a huge cut from this, but, hey, the choice is yours.

It's not too late to get an autographed, personalized copy for $18. PM or email me for details.

As always, thank to all of you for your constant support! BBs are the best.

Ordered! I'll get it shortly after midnight.

I just ordered it from CreateSpace. I guess I'm old fashioned in that I like to have an actual physical book to read, so I'll have it around the 5th of December.

I've found two typos so far: "you're father" and "refriger-ator".

I've got a question about Kindle editions of books. Who actually does the "typesetting" for those? Since I've gotten my Kindle, I've read a number of books there and there seem to be some oddball typos of just this sort that I can't believe an editor wouldn't catch, if not the author himself. They seem to me to be more a function of how the text was transferred into Kindle "form." So I'm kind of curious what the process is for getting anyone's manuscript into a Kindle version.

It's a conversion program (Calibre) that changes any input file (typically .html files) into .mobi files, which are compatible with Kindles. The publisher (in this case) made the conversion and looked for obvious issues, like spacing errors or improper bolding/italics (which can go on for pages) and the overall "look" of the document. When she was done she sent to me for a final look (because this pub is small and relies on authors for some eyeballing) and I gave it a look over. However, by this time I was so friggin' tired of reading this book that I just glossed over much of it.

Sorry, folks, I missed a few. I know "refriger-ator" was introduced by software. The other likely wasn't.

I'm sure there's more.

And yet that is the only comment you made. He didn't ask you to spell check it.

As much as I hate to defend Bob (because he's usually so wrong about everything), nobody should review or critique a book her or she hasn't finished yet.

I made no critique of the book pro or con but I am biased by the first one and am sure I will love the second as well. I am waiting for my signed copy of Centerpoint. And as much as I can't wait, I will wait!

For those of you who don't understand quilting you may not fully get this but when a friend shows me her recently finished project I don't mention where the points don't match up or if her hand quilting is uneven. I point out how much I love her choice of color or the cleverness of the pattern she chose.

Because that is what friends do.

Christie, I agree. Especially considering how many typos I've seen in Nook books that come from huge publishers or are classics that have been around forever. It's the conversion to ebook mostly.
Because that is what friends do.
Well, then

I reread this and thought about the 'her or she' part that made me misinterpret your comment. You were not saying that I made a critique. My new phone is likely to make me a future candidate for one of those auto-correct jokes I have seen on FB and I am as likely (or more) to type something wrong so I apologize for any misinterpretation.

My other comments stand.

I have no idea what y'all are talking about, but my comments were directed to the fact that if I published a book after countless years of hard work and dedication, and the first feedback I got from someone about that book was that he noticed a couple nitpicky typos in the book, I'd probably punch that fucker right in the nose. Looking for and correcting typos is for the editing process, which I'd assume since the book is now live was some time ago. Vandal is a much better man than I am to put up with such a tactless comment from a tactless person.....

Folks, let's please take a step back and breathe.

My thinking is: if you buy the book you can say anything you want about it. If someone says in a review that he found typos in the text and that took away from his enjoyment of the book, that's a perfectly valid statement. Some readers may find plot holes, implausible circumstances, paper-thin characters, too much swearing, not enough swearing, bad ending, etc.

If you are inclined to leave a review on Amazon, B&N or Goodreads, that would be greatly appreciated. Good or bad, it matters not to me (although the director of promos may put it to good use).

Thanks for your support! The book launch was very successful.
