Not sure what was so wacky about these. Although come to think of it, some of the bands were a little wacky and some of the songs were as well. So I suppose I started with a couple songs I wanted and a theme kind of grew out of it. So keep the theme in mind when you give the artist, you'll only get half credit if you use someone who obviously is not like the others. Except for #10, which doesn't really fit the wackiness nor the theme, so I have no idea why I used it.

1. Well, you're built like a car
You got a hubcap diamond star halo
You're built like a car
Oh yeah

2. And brother's back at home
With his Beatles and his Stones
We never got it off on that revolution stuff
What a drag

3. Can you still recall in the Jukebox Hall when the music played
And the world spun round to a brand new sound in those far off days
In their blue suede shoes they would scream and shout
As they sang the blues let it all hang out

4. Oh, I see a man at the back
As a matter of fact his eyes are red as the sun
And a girl in the corner let no one ignore her
'Cause she thinks she's the passionate one

5. When I woke up and my head started to clear
I had a strange feeling I was cooking gear
I smelled something cooking and I looked to see
That's when I found out they was cookin' me
Great googly moogly, let me outta here!
Meanwhile, back in the States …

6. I don't want to drink my whisky like you do
I don't need to spend my money but still do
Don't stop now a-c'mon
Another drop now a-c'mon
I wanna lot now so c'mon
That's right, that's right

7. So where were the spiders
While the fly tried to break our balls
Just a beer light to guide us
So we bitched about his fans
And should we crush his sweet hands

8. Sits like a man but he smiles like a reptile
She loves him, she loves him but just for a short while
She'll scratch in the sand, won't let go his hand
He says he's a beautician and sells you nutrition
And keeps all your dead hair for making up underwear

9. To avoid complications
She never kept the same address
In conversation
She spoke just like a baroness

10. Lumber up, limbo down
The locked embrace, the stumble round
I say go, she say yes
Dim the lights, you can guess the rest
Oh oh catch that buzz

Bonus Instrumental: A sequel to #3 above, this has become a staple for virtually every sports franchise in the country. However, it was first used by two Denver teams, the Nuggets and the Rockies. Like Tequila earlier this month, it might not technically be an instrumental although there's only 1/3 of the syllables in this one.

(2008 Note: I think it's been supplanted by hip hop and rap in some cases. I'll have a story about this in the eagerly anticipated answers!)

Bonus Bonus: The #4 song above enjoyed renewed popularity when it was used in this 1992 movie.

Super Bonus: Another song by the group in #2 was (and still is, as far as I know) used as the theme music for an ABC sitcom. I don’t think the show really gets the lyrics. Name the song and the television show.

(2008 Note: Obviously this was a popular tv show in 2002. It is no longer on the air. First run, anyway.)

Tubadave joined me in catching this game that night:

http://retrosheet.org/boxesetc/2002/B08210SLN2002.htm

Pretty boring game other than Osik's homer. Did you know Keith Osik hit only 13 homeruns in his 10 year career, but hit 5 of them against the Cardinals (I also saw the one he hit on 8/23/00)? I always liked Osik because he took over the backup catcher's job in Pittsburgh from another fave of mine Angelo "Don't calle me Eleutero" Encarnacion, plus he has 2 other claims to fame. He and Jason Kendall served as the catching tandem in Pittsburgh for an incredible 7 years from 1996-2002, and when he went to Milwaukee in 2003, he and Eddie Perez handled every inning of the catching duties for the Brewers that year... which is extremely rare for a team to use only 2 catchers in a season.... but enough about Mr. Osik and onto today's LS....

1. Well, you're built like a car

You're built like a car

Get it On, T-Rex, then a redo in the 80's by....Robert Palmer?

2. And brother's back at home
With his Beatles and his Stones
We never got it off on that revolution stuff

All the Young Dudes? David Bowie? I have him a bunch today...

3. Can you still recall in the Jukebox Hall when the music played

Nope (Now I'm putting Rock and Roll, Part I by Gary Glitter...)

4. Oh, I see a man at the back
As a matter of fact his eyes are red as the sun
And a girl in the corner let no one ignore her
'Cause she thinks she's the passionate one

Ballroom Blitz! Sweet! (I have their greatest hits CD.)

7. So where were the spiders
While the fly tried to break our balls
Just a beer light to guide us
So we bitched about his fans
And should we crush his sweet hands

Ziggy Stardust and the Spider From Mars, David Bowie part 2

8. Sits like a man but he smiles like a reptile
She loves him, she loves him but just for a short while
She'll scratch in the sand, won't let go his hand

Love is the Drug, Roxy Music. Soundtrack to The Night of the Tall Tree, unless it was Avalon with just Bryan Ferry. You had to be there...

Like Tequila earlier this month, it might not technically be an instrumental although there's only 1/3 of the syllables in this one.

Okay, so now I'm thinking #3 is Rock and Roll, Part I by Gary Glitter, if there is such a thing. The sequel would be Rock and Roll, Part II.

(2008 Note: I think it's been supplanted by hip hop and rap in some cases. I'll have a story about this in the eagerly anticipated answers!)

Bonus Bonus: The #4 song above enjoyed renewed popularity when it was used in this 1992 movie.

Wayne's World

Super Bonus: Another song by the group in #2 was (and still is, as far as I know) used as the theme music for an ABC sitcom. I don’t think the show really gets the lyrics. Name the song and the television show.

So of course I have a solo artist for #2. Sheesh.

1. T-Rex - Bang a Gong (Get it On)
* I'm guessing from your comments regarding the theme that you want the T-Rex version, not Power Station's remake. Power Station was late 80's and doesn't seem to fit in with the other artists.
2. Mott the Hoople - All the Young Dudes
4. The Sweet - Ballroom Blitz
7. David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust
9. Queen - Killer Queen

I have a Big Star live album where they do the theme to That 70s Show, so that's not Mott the Hoople. Can't be Friends (that's some awful 90s manufactured band. Can't be Malcolm - that's TMBG. The only other show I can think of where I even know the theme is Drew Carey. I guess that Cleveland Rocks song could be Mott the Hoople. So, yeah, Cleveland Rocks from Drew Carey.

Sheesh. This must make me wacky as well (probably that is no revelation), because I love most of these artists! Are you sure this wasn't a salute to Glam Rock??

1-Bang a Gong (Get it On)-T. Rex
2-All the Young Dudes-Mott the Hoople
3-Changed my answer after reading the bonus inst. clue. Rock and Roll Part 1-Gary Glitter
4-Ballroom Blitz-The Sweet
5-Stranded in the Jungle-I am partial to The Cadets, but I think you're looking for The New York Dolls here.
6-Mama Weer All Crazee Now-Slade. OK, now you've done it. Two Slade songs in the same week? I resisted on the first time, but hearing this song in my head, I MUST pull out my Slade compilation cd and rock the house down. I love this song! But NOT by Quiet Riot.
7-Ziggy Stardust-David Bowie
8-A two-fer! Jean Genie-David Bowie
9-Killer Queen-Queen
10-Love is the Drug-Roxy Music

This would make a pretty good cd!

Bonus Instrumental: Rock and Roll Part 2-Gary Glitter
Bonus Bonus: No idear.
Super Bonus: No idear here either.

Bonus: Ooh, I didn't have #3 before, but the clue makes it Rock and Roll, Part I, which makes this Rock and Roll, Part II by the child molester Gary Glitter.

(2008 Note: Obviously this was a popular tv show in 2002. It is no longer on the air. First run, anyway.)

Spoiler
1. Bang a Gong - T. Rex
2. All the Young Dudes - Mott the Hoople
3. Nope...until the bonus. Rock and Roll Part 1 - Gary Glitter
4. Ballroom Blitz - Tia Carerra is the funniest one to do this that I can think of, but you probably want Sweet
5. Nope
6. Nope
7. Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie
8. The Jean Genie - David Bowie (again?)
9. Killer Queen - Queen
10. Nope

OK, this has to be Gary Glitter's Rock and Roll Part 2, which means I should go back and put "Rock and Roll Part 1" for #3.

(2008 Note: I think it's been supplanted by hip hop and rap in some cases. I'll have a story about this in the eagerly anticipated answers!)

Bonus Bonus: The #4 song above enjoyed renewed popularity when it was used in this 1992 movie.

Wayne's World (Excellent!...although now you've stolen some of my thunder for almost using Tia Carerra above!)

Super Bonus: Another song by the group in #2 was (and still is, as far as I know) used as the theme music for an ABC sitcom. I don’t think the show really gets the lyrics. Name the song and the television show.

No thanks.

(2008 Note: Obviously this was a popular tv show in 2002. It is no longer on the air. First run, anyway.)

I'll guess Hey!

I have no idea what the real name might be.

I'll guess Wayne's World.

I'll guess a show I'm pretty sure was on ABC and which I know has been canceled in primetime: George Lopez.

Orginally posted August 21, 2002

1. Well, you're built like a car
You got a hubcap diamond star halo
You're built like a car
Oh yeah

BANG A GONG (GET IT ON) - TREX

Half credit for Get it On

2. And brother's back at home
With his Beatles and his Stones
We never got it off on that revolution stuff
What a drag

ALL THE YOUNG DUDES - MOTT THE HOOPLE or DAVID BOWIE

I think Bowie offered them Suffragette City and they took Dudes instead.

3. Can you still recall in the Jukebox Hall when the music played
And the world spun round to a brand new sound in those far off days
In their blue suede shoes they would scream and shout
As they sang the blues let it all hang out

ROCK AND ROLL PART ONE - GARY GLITTER

Half credit for just Rock and Roll

4. Oh, I see a man at the back
As a matter of fact his eyes are red as the sun
And a girl in the corner let no one ignore her
'Cause she thinks she's the passionate one

BALLROOM BLITZ - THE SWEET

I considered giving extra credit for anyone who said THE Sweet, but I didn't. Greatest Hits is good, but it isn't enough, mini. There are two albums that I have in all four formats. One is Jerry Jeff Walker's Ridin' High and the other one is DESOLATION BOULEVARD aka The Greatest Album EVER!

5. When I woke up and my head started to clear
I had a strange feeling I was cooking gear
I smelled something cooking and I looked to see
That's when I found out they was cookin' me
Great googly moogly, let me outta here!
Meanwhile, back in the States …

STRANDED IN THE JUNGLE - NEW YORK DOLLS

Half credit for the Cadets (because they're not the glam artist)

6. I don't want to drink my whisky like you do
I don't need to spend my money but still do
Don't stop now a-c'mon
Another drop now a-c'mon
I wanna lot now so c'mon
That's right, that's right

MAMA WEER ALL CRAZEE NOW - SLADE

Half credit for Quiet Riot (see number 5 above)

7. So where were the spiders
While the fly tried to break our balls
Just a beer light to guide us
So we bitched about his fans
And should we crush his sweet hands

ZIGGY STARDUST - DAVID BOWIE (and the Spiders from Mars)

8. Sits like a man but he smiles like a reptile
She loves him, she loves him but just for a short while
She'll scratch in the sand, won't let go his hand
He says he's a beautician and sells you nutrition
And keeps all your dead hair for making up underwear

THE JEAN GENIE - DAVID BOWIE

I have no idea why I had Bowie in there twice (maybe because I hadn't used him AT ALL yet, ha!) but, with them being right together, I'm thinking that I was deciding which one and changed the other when I posted it.

9. To avoid complications
She never kept the same address
In conversation
She spoke just like a baroness

KILLER QUEEN - QUEEN

10. Lumber up, limbo down
The locked embrace, the stumble round
I say go, she say yes
Dim the lights, you can guess the rest
Oh oh catch that buzz

LOVE IS THE DRUG - ROXY MUSIC

ROCK AND ROLL PART TWO - GARY GLITTER

As I recall, this was the exact same music as Part One, just all the lyrics were taken out and variations of Hey were put in. I was going to dig out the Glitter and check, but my cassettes are still packed away.

I was looking over these games at the beginning of the month to see what I've have to piece together, etc. and I remarked to my sister that I hadn't heard this at a game probably since the Nuggets moved to the Can and wondered if all sports teams had abandoned it. They're real heavy on the Kanye and the Peas at bball games the last couple years. So, we go to I think it was the Spurs game a couple days later and what do you think they played with a few minutes to go (aka the audience goes nuts part of the game)? You guessed it. HEY! Now if we could just get them to start playing Steam again when a player fouls out...

Bonus Bonus: The #4 song above enjoyed renewed popularity when it was used in this 1992 movie.

WAYNE'S WORLD

I think I originally had Wig Wag Bam, but changed it to Ballroom Blitz so at least somebody besides starfish would get it, so the bonus question wrote itself!

Super Bonus: Another song by the group in #2 was (and still is, as far as I know) used as the theme music for an ABC sitcom. I don’t think the show really gets the lyrics. Name the song and the television show.

CLEVELAND ROCKS - DREW CAREY SHOW

Although he didn't get the answer, tbone is right that this is Ian Hunter. I have no idea why I wrote the clue as I did, unless I was trying to specify a group as #2 or I just left out the 'singer in' part when I was typing. I'm still legal, though. I checked and it is on MtH compliation albums. YAY!
