My oldest son is on his first foray into the world of game shows, and we need your help. We are entered as a team in the "Toyota 5th Grade Challenge", and having passed the audition, we need you to vote for him to become a finalist on the show. Only the top 8 make it.
To vote, go here:
http://rochesterhomepage.net/content/wr ... eChallenge
Fill in the information and select
Peter Reiser as the contestant you're voting for. It appears that you can vote for as many times as you have available email addresses, so vote early and often!
Thanks,
Astrnomr

I voted.
A <grumble>® to Toyota for requiring all that info--name, address, phone, e-mail, birthdate--in order to cast a ballot.
Yes, I know you can fake most of that. The fact that one can do so in order to stuff the ballot box warrants another <grumble>®.
I hope Peter makes it to the finals, Astro. But still...

I am sure that Toyota will be sending us brochures in the mail soon.

So, Astro, what kind of game show is the Toyota 5th Grade Challenge? Is it a trivia contest or a combination of that with some sort of talent show? The web site mentioned kids singing and stuff for their auditions.
Will this be aired locally only or can we catch it somewhere?

It's a trivia contest. I'm not sure who sang and danced... or why. For the audition, he had to answer five questions, although he was allowed to consult with me. The first two questions (which are shown in the interview clip) were the process by which plants convert sunlight into energy (photosynthesis) and the first man to walk on the moon (Neil Armstrong). He was also asked what sport Tony Hawk made famous (skateboarding), what "famous lady" was a gift from France (Statue of Liberty), and to name any of the three judges from American Idol (he picked Paula Abdul).
As far as I know, it will only be broadcast in the Rochester area. Should we make it, I will definitely record it on the DVR, and I could try to capture and upload the show from there (assuming that they don't post the show online). If I read the rules correctly, all of the finalists will get a laptop -- unless they win the big prizes.

Thanks for the help, everybody. It would be nice if they posted a count so we could see how the voting is going, but I suppose that's asking too much.

I'm behind in a few things right now, but today I saw that through my gmail account there is a new (to me) feature.
Check out the entry under March 5.

I really like this idea of being able to alter your email address and still receive the email. Even if it doesn't change the fact that I would possibly still receive unwanted solicitations, at least I could filter them. I'm interested to see if the folks at Toyota send me anything, as I put a "dot" Rochester after my email address. LOL
From a non-SPAM standpoint, this might be nice when I want to change my email just a little to reflect something in which I'm currently participating. (fund raisers, volunteer stuff, etc)
On a separate note: HI Astro!!!! It is good to see you!! I'm sending good luck vibes towards Peter's way!

For those who don't know this little trick, you can go to
http://www.jetable.org/en/index to create temporary email routing. It will create an email address that will route stuff to the email address you enter, then self-destruct after the time period you select. This is a good way to avoid getting spammed by places that require you to enter an email address to sign up.
And hello again to you to, Cindy!
