I think I first heard about that essay from my boss (a huge Simpsons fan), when he was pointing out the significance of the the episode title, "A Totally Fun Thing Bart Will Never Do Again."

Did you see the movie?

I think everybody with any historical knowledge at all remembers that the embassy was taken over. If they hadn't escaped, it would have been shocking to make a movie that implied that they did. Having escaped, it's no surprise that they had CIA help to do so.

But the chase scene was pure movie nonsense. Let's not just show them peacefully boarding a plane, when we can pretend there was a split-second escape with pickups full of armed revolutionary guards chasing the plane down the runway as it's taking off!

I did not see the movie. I almost never see movies until they show up on network television. My loss, I know.
