Wedding Blog: BD**2 - 149

Less than five months to go now. A number of details will be defined in the coming couple of weeks. Food and venue layout, for one. There are leads on the chaplain, which is not exactly what you call a detail. More like a major aspect, on the same order as the venue and florist. We probably won't start feeling heavy stress until mid-May or so, when we're supposed to get updates on the status and arrival dates for The Gown and the MotB dress. Any delays will be not be met with aplomb.
I don't know if it stemmed from a discussion with GW (she and I have been talking about it), but BD is looking into jobs out in CA. The timing of the wedding is terrible in that regard. If I'm extrapolating from the current year's schedule correctly, then the 2008-9 school year will start the day after the wedding. Not good for full-time job consideration. Ain't gonna happen. However, BD is looking at substitute teaching out there. That has possibilities. It also pays about half again what similar positions pay around here, which made her eyes light up. She is very much aware of the pay scale in the armed forces. She will also be contacting her school advisor who seems to have contacts around the country. And she has lined up references already from her current job. Glowing ones, of course. Hundred-watt, at least, maybe even Klieg light intensity.
Busy weekend coming up. Sis is in town for her annual Mom's birthday trip. We're doing our part by taking them both to lunch at the local deli, which has become a regular event whenever Sis comes. It's more than it seems. It's an old style deli, in the tradition of the Boston Blue Hill Avenue places that were so much a part of the Jewish culture back in the 1910's and 1920's, right through to the '60's. Very filling, and no doubt bad for our arteries.
That's Saturday. Sunday is Mom's 89th birthday party, a more-or-less impromptu thing that was set up when Sis wanted to see some of the cousins and other relatives while she was here this time. GW is the designated baker, so the cake part of the cake was baked last night. The coating will be some sort of strawberry cream concoction. Or maybe that's just the filling between layers. I wasn't paying that much attention. It'll be good, whatever it is. Also on Sunday is the comic show with the artist whose autograph I'm seeking. Whirlwind morning trip into Boston, back just in time to change and then leave to pick up HS and his girlfriend and go to the party. I'd better fill up the gas tank.
