One of the best bits of advice I got came from another former contestant who had flamed out on a stupid mistake. He said that I should never say the words "final answer." I should say the answer I wanted, then let Meredith ask if it was my final answer. That extra few seconds really lets you unclog your brain.
Future contestants, take note!

I am with you 1,000% on this one, hss. The chance to review the answer you've given can help you make sure you said what you thought you did--or, in Bryant's case, change to the answer you meant. Now that T.D.C. has (thankfully) gone from the game, contestants have no reason to rush. With this much money on the line, who'd want to?

It's been awhile, but I think I remember hesitating a least a few beats after each answer, and I think I mostly waited for Mere's prompt before saying "Final Answer." I'm sure at least one former contestant gave me that bit of advice before I taped. I feel for this guy - imaging getting that far in the process and then that happens.

When I was on my AP was the one who told me not to blurt out "final answer" but to wait for Regis to ask me.
