Tobyhanna, PA

Meredith says that the third time is the charm but for Alison it was the twelfth time. She watches the show each day with her parents. When she was in high school she wanted to be a cheerleader and it took her four times before she was chosen. Meredith asks her to demonstrate. The silver ribbon Alison wears is to honor her parents, both of whom are suffering from Alzheimer's - she's their caregiver. She wants to win enough to take them on a cruise - the boat is nice and flat and she can push them around. She waves and says she's going to win enough for the new bathroom - and the cruise.

Alison had the answer figured out, but succumbed to first question jitters (proterotetiphobia™). Too bad; if she had pulled the trigger, she could have saved a jump for Question #10, got her entire bank, and won enough for a bathroom conversion and a cruise too!

So, the story about persistence in auditioning morphed into persistence in trying out of cheerleading, which in no way answered the question of how she got chosen for the show after (only) her twelfth attempt.

According to that story that I posted last week, Alison was part of that experiment they set up for an episode of "What Would You Do?" That appearance apparently gave her extra points in the casting process, yet this went entirely unremarked during the bantering with Meredith.

I forget, have they already aired another contestant from that gimmick, making it stale conversational material?

Here's a link to that story, which apparently made the news last September after being a classified secret for decades.

They say these are industrial-grade "impact diamonds" which aren't of value in jewelry, but "trillions of carats" sounds like a hugely valuable resource.

Twelfth time? So what was different that time than all the others?

A wasted lifeline. She'll regret not having this later.

Yeah, I'm sure people going to the IRS site are looking for fun things to do.

Another wasted lifeline. Did she think that the sewing machine was a treadle type without electricity? Or maybe she was looking for "Underwriters Laboratory" (UL).

So I'd be at round 2 with all my lifelines. As for this question, this wasn't always the case - there were "full size" Krackel bars when I was younger. I'm not sure when (or why) Hershey stopped making them.
