The Peacock Network announced earlier today that they are replacing Jay Leno with Jimmy Fallon as host of 'The Tonight Show' next Spring.
This will mark the third time in less than five years that the iconic late night talk show's host has been changed (and each time under somewhat dubious circumstances).

My two cents: there's a third party at work here...

At least NBC won't be able to misuse Leno any more. Their ratings decline stems directly from their moronic decision to give him five hours of primetime every week, which set back new show development and damaged ratings horribly.
One week last month, NBC had its lowest overall ratings of any week in its history. They have only two shows that people care about, Sunday Night Football and The Voice (neither of which during their ratings nadir). Crap that is DOA (Whitney and Chelsea) or long past the time anyone cares (most of its Thursday lineup) hangs around because they just don't have anything to replace it with. One highly promoted show after another crashes and burns (Smash; Do No Harm).
This is just par for the course. One of the few areas they had a ratings advantage was late night and they're determined to trash it the same way they did the Today show's ratings.

NBC couldn't pay me enough to watch anything in their lineup. Daytime, primetime, or late night.
NBC could give Adrian Peterson his own show and I still wouldn't watch it.
NBC could do a game show about killing squirrels and I still wouldn't watch it.
NBC could do a game show about killing Nelly... and maybe we'll negotiate.

Tonight's "Hannibal" should be a huge success.

Hannibal finished third in its time slot, with less than half the ratings of either Scandal or Elementary, the other two shows in the time slot. On the one hand, this was considerably better than the ratings that Awake (which had already been on the air for several weeks) was generating last year in the time slot, and better than the comedy shows that served as its leadin. On the other, most shows lose a good bit in ratings in the second week, and if Hannibal has a similar dropoff, it's likely headed for the cancellation heap.
NBC had already announced the show would run into June with first run episodes, and there's nothing to replace it with for now, so it's probably going to get through this season without a premature cancellation.

I thought it was remarkably convoluted and difficult to follow which made it at least a little bit interesting to me. Although it seemed to be edited in an odd manner to make it seemingly more convoluted and confusing than it needed to be. As if they had too much material and didn't know what they needed to do with it. Of course anything even a little bit interesting to me is usually the kiss of death with the target demographic. Don't see it surviving beyond the limited run this season.
