WWTBAM Bored

Just picked up my glasses a half hour ago. The difference when I put them on was amazing. I haven't seen stuff that clear since.... well, I don't know when. However, I noticed when driving home that everytime I glanced down at the speedometer (A longtime habit of mine, and one primary reasons I've never been pulled over before, let alone given a ticket) it was a bit of a strain on me. Now that I'm home and looking at the computer screen, it's kind of the same thing. I can turn over to the TV (About 25 feet away, and currently on Music Choice where my LS fave "Never Say Never" is playing) and can read the print as clear as a bell (It was always fuzzy at best from where I'm sitting), but looking at the computer screen seems more of a strain than without the glasses. Hopefully, that's just a temporary adjustment, because I blamed looking at this computer screen so much lately as the reason for the eye problems I've had the last couple weeks....

Hey, it took me 32 years just to succumb to the need for regular glasses. They'll be fitting me for a coffin before they ever fit me for a pair of Coke bottles....

What did you say?

You could get special eye glasse frames that you can look under and not have to look through your distance lenses to see at near. They are in fashion now (the skinny ones), so you won't look terribly out of place.

Otherwise, you will be a bit blurred at near if you don't go with bifocals of some sort.

What is your distance Rx? Seems like at your age this should not be a problem for a first time Rx.

Welcome to the club. I am also a very new member of the club getting my glasses a couple of weeks ago. Sounds like we have similar problems but I did the bifocal thingie. I have to admit that I do not wear my glasses even close to 50% of the time. I am slowly trying to adjust--I am not fond of change. I will be able to pass my driver's license eye exam without glasses--so said the doc. Another reason for not wearing them is I picked the most horrible frames possible--think the Verizon guy.

Beats me. I really don't know.

I know I have been fighting seeing clearly for years. I just barely passed the vision test in driver's training... and that was in 1991 (Of course, I also just passed it the last time I took it in 2005, so maybe their machine is just crap). My two oldest sisters have been wearing glasses since their early 20's, and both of my parents have worn glasses since at least that age too....

Jeff just got bifocals. So he is a fogey too.

I can pass the New York vision test without glasses. That's scary! That means there are people driving around with vision as bad as mine is without glasses? UGH!

20/40 (NYS requirement) is not such great vision. Some states are different and there are states that allow people with 20/60 or 20/70 to drive with certain restrictions.
