Lyrically Speaking - 3/13/13

#1 Post by Romney Wordsworth » Wed Mar 13, 2013 6:30 am

I don't have very long to live. The Chancellor of The State has sentenced me to death, and in four hours, I am to be logged off permanently by a massive internal server error. The State wanted to put an end to lyrics, and I stood up to them, and continue to do so! They say I am obsolete. Well, I am not obsolete, and neither are any of the things I have included in today's Wacky Wednesday game! Yes, I wrote an LSWSE game, just to thumb my nose at The State. Yes, they'll come after you too if you choose to play, or even if you just choose to be "present", but we must not let the music die! Obsolescents unite!!! Now if you'll excuse me, it is time for my last meal..... ah yes, I do love me some broiled penguin!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist....

1. I kept my cool, I ain`t no fool
Let me tell you what happened then
I packed some clothes
And I walked out
And I ain`t going back again

2. Been away so long I hardly knew the place
Gee, it's good to be back home
Leave it til tomorrow to unpack my case
Honey, disconnect the phone

3. Yeah, I, I know it's hard to remember
The people we used to be...
It's even harder to picture
That you're not here next to me

4. Loneliness was tough
The toughest role you ever played
Hollywood created a superstar
And pain was the price you paid

5. You gave them all
Those old time stars
Through wars of worlds
Invaded by Mars

6. When your dreamboat
Turns out to be a footnote
I'm a man with a mission
In two or three editions

7. Three little birds
Sat on my window
And they told me
I don't need to worry

8. A-friends, you get some silver
Did you get a little gold
A what did you bring me
My dear friends

9. Now you`ve gone away and
How it`s sad to say you`ve gone
I remember what they said
Now I`m going out of my head

10. She's living in L. A.
With my best old ex-friend Ray
A guy she said she knew well
And sometimes hated

11. Do you want to see me
Crawl across the floor to you
Do you want to hear me
Beg you to take me back

12. Little things remind me of you
Cheap cologne and that damn song too

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that mentions something that might be considered obsolete today in the title.

5 Point Bonus: "The Obsolete Man" is my absolute favorite episode of The Twilight Zone, maybe my favorite episode of any show ever. How many of the 168 episodes of the original TZ series did Burgess Meredith star in?

I'm not obsolete but I'll be there for you when YOU are!!!
I don't have very long to live. The Chancellor of The State has sentenced me to death, and in four hours, I am to be logged off permanently by a massive internal server error. Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that mentions something that might be considered obsolete today in the title.

Kodachrome, Paul Simon. I think Sir Mix-a-Lot has a song called Beepers but I don't know if it's about actual pagers or if that's a slang term for something else... :P

5 Point Bonus: "The Obsolete Man" is my absolute favorite episode of The Twilight Zone, maybe my favorite episode of any show ever. How many of the 168 episodes of the original TZ series did Burgess Meredith star in?

Spoiler
1. I kept my cool, I ain`t no fool
Let me tell you what happened then
I packed some clothes
And I walked out
And I ain`t going back again

TAKE A LETTER MARIA - R B GREAVES.

The song is not obsolete; R B is, In fact, he's in his (evident bad pun)

2. Been away so long I hardly knew the place
Gee, it's good to be back home
Leave it til tomorrow to unpack my case
Honey, disconnect the phone

BACK IN THE USSR - THE BEATLES. so much for Paperback Writer as a Krox.

3. Yeah, I, I know it's hard to remember
The people we used to be...
It's even harder to picture
That you're not here next to me

THE CANADIAN PENNY SONG - STOMPIN TOM CONNORS

(RIP both of them)..

4. Loneliness was tough
The toughest role you ever played
Hollywood created a superstar
And pain was the price you paid

CANDLE IN THE WIND - ELTON JOHN. I still do NOT get Marilyn-Mania.

5. You gave them all
Those old time stars
Through wars of worlds
Invaded by Mars

I would like to say this is "FRIENDS OF MR. CAIRO", a song which I love, but you are dealing with things, not people, and this is probably "RADIO GA_GA" by QUEEN. Worst sportswriting pun ever is from Montreal, comparing Andres Gallaraga's last name to Radio-ga-ga. I am sure that never happened when he played in St. Louis.

6. When your dreamboat
Turns out to be a footnote
I'm a man with a mission
In two or three editions

GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK SONG WITH A VERSE THAT NOBODY EVER SINGS FOR OBVIOUS REASONS>

7. Three little birds
Sat on my window
And they told me
I don't need to worry

I think the teletype is coming later based on my first scan....

FOUNTAIN PEN - PETE FOUNTAIN.

8. A-friends, you get some silver
Did you get a little gold
A what did you bring me
My dear friends

Now this should be the canadian penny song, but I've already used it.
HALF A SIXPENCE - TOMMY STEELE.

Half a sixpence is better than half a penny is better than half a farthing is better than none.
Oy vey, THEY KNEW HOW TO WRITE LYRICS IN THOSE DAYS>

9. Now you`ve gone away and
How it`s sad to say you`ve gone
I remember what they said
Now I`m going out of my head

WESTERN UNION - THE FIVE AMERICANS.

10. She's living in L. A.
With my best old ex-friend Ray
A guy she said she knew well
And sometimes hated

OPERATOR - JIM CROCE - there goes another couple of potential K songs.

11. Do you want to see me
Crawl across the floor to you
Do you want to hear me
Beg you to take me back

No.

12. Little things remind me of you
Cheap cologne and that damn song too

DEVIL WITH A BLUE DRESS - MITCH RYDER AND THE DETROIT WHEELS.

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that mentions something that might be considered obsolete today in the title.

I'd like to use a train song, but too many of them are metaphors for death, and death is not obsolete.

so there goes Mystery Train, Orange Blossom Special, and maybe even Rock island Line. City of New Orleans still runs, albeit overnight not daytime. I don't think they ever made a song out of Streetcar named Desire, which would be perfect. The sealing wax from 19'th nervous breakdown, but that ain't the title of the song. OK, here is something which better be obsolete, if you don't want to get breathalysedL

ONE FOR MY BABY (AND ONE MORE FOR THE ROAD) - FRANK SINATRA.

Like anybody other than you and Frank would know this one. I'm doing good to know that he was in more than one of them. And that's only because Time Enough at Last was like the most famous TZ ep of all. This will not, however, keep me from repeating the Famous Fanny Fun Fact that I knew the son of the Sir that wrote the Horace Ford ep in search of JJCP....

I think I remember hearing 4.

4. Loneliness was tough
The toughest role you ever played
Hollywood created a superstar
And pain was the price you paid
Candle in the Wind - Elton John (The concert version was the hit and most famous, but I love the studio version of this much, much better....)

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that mentions something that might be considered obsolete today in the title. - This was one of my favorite games for Kroxes this year... I always enjoy seeing what things the players can come up with that I missed!

5 Point Bonus: "The Obsolete Man" is my absolute favorite episode of The Twilight Zone, maybe my favorite episode of any show ever. How many of the 168 episodes of the original TZ series did Burgess Meredith star in? - Four

"Time Enough At Last" (The one everyone knows, but I think it's overrated...)
"The Obsolete Man" (Of course)
"Mr. Dingle the Strong" (This was pretty much a comedy episode that had so much cheese, you forget the moral of it...)
"Printer's Devil" (An hour long episode I've only seen once, and if I recall correctly, he actually has the Penguin laugh in this one that he made famous later on in the Batman series...)
