1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist....

1. I've been looking at the sky
'Cause it's gettin' me high
Forget the hearse 'cause I never die
I got nine lives
Cat's eyes
Abusin' every one of them and running wild

2. Every word of every song that he sang was for you
In a flash he was gone, it happened so soon
What could you do?

3. They print my message in the Saturday Sun
I had to tell them I ain't second to none
And I told about equality and it's true
Either you're wrong or you're right

4. Hey, hey mama said the way you move,
Gon' make you sweat, gon' make you groove.

5. You got your spell on me, baby.
You got your spell on me, baby.
Yes, you got your spell on me, baby,
Turnin' my heart into stone

6. Boiling heat, summer stench
`Neath the black the sky looks dead
Call my name through the cream
And I`ll hear you scream again

7. I'll stand down by the door
And catch the grey men
When they dive from the fourteenth floor

8. Yeah, keep on shinin' your light, gonna make every thing
Pretty mama, gonna make everything all right
And I ain't got no worries 'cause I ain't in no hurry at all

9. But I cut some cord, and I shouldn't have done that
And it won't forgive me after all these years

10. She really gets me high (Bam-ba-Lam)
You know that's no lie (Bam-ba-Lam)
She's so rock steady (Bam-ba-Lam)
And she's always ready (Bam-ba-Lam)

11. And now at last we plainly see
We'll have a dance of Liberty, Liberty!

12. What can I do?
'Cause I-I-I-I-I'm feelin' blue

1. I've been looking at the sky
'Cause it's gettin' me high
Forget the hearse 'cause I never die
I got nine lives
Cat's eyes
Abusin' every one of them and running wild

Back in Black, AC/DC

2. Every word of every song that he sang was for you
In a flash he was gone, it happened so soon
What could you do?

Black Velvet, can't remember her name or who else recorded it since I think there were two versions...

3. They print my message in the Saturday Sun
I had to tell them I ain't second to none
And I told about equality and it's true
Either you're wrong or you're right

Black or White, Michael Jackson

4. Hey, hey mama said the way you move,
Gon' make you sweat, gon' make you groove.

Black Dog, Led Zeppelin (I honestly had no clue what this was called until just recently! You can hear something all your life but not really know it...)

5. You got your spell on me, baby.
You got your spell on me, baby.
Yes, you got your spell on me, baby,
Turnin' my heart into stone

Black Magic Woman, Santana

6. Boiling heat, summer stench
`Neath the black the sky looks dead
Call my name through the cream
And I`ll hear you scream again

Black Hole Sun, Soundgarden

7. I'll stand down by the door
And catch the grey men
When they dive from the fourteenth floor

Black Friday, Steely Dan (now I'm changing Black Friday to Sequester in my head...)

8. Yeah, keep on shinin' your light, gonna make every thing
Pretty mama, gonna make everything all right
And I ain't got no worries 'cause I ain't in no hurry at all

Old Black Water, Doobie Brothers (I think? But not with Michael MacDonald on lead...)

9. But I cut some cord, and I shouldn't have done that
And it won't forgive me after all these years

Black Horse and the Cherry Tree, KT....something that isn't Oslin (who is wonderful and now I have to go dig out some of HER stuff now that you reminded me she existed...)

10. She really gets me high (Bam-ba-Lam)
You know that's no lie (Bam-ba-Lam)
She's so rock steady (Bam-ba-Lam)
And she's always ready (Bam-ba-Lam)

Old Black Betty, Somegrouporother

11. And now at last we plainly see
We'll have a dance of Liberty, Liberty!

Oh, boy. That The Ink is Black, the Page is White song they taught us in elementary school music class! Not really sure who sang it--probably Three Dog Night.

12. What can I do?
'Cause I-I-I-I-I'm feelin' blue

Did you stretch out the I-I-I for me??? That's the only way I got this!!! :D Black is Black. Still don't know who sings it, though...

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that fits the theme of today's game.

Keep it simple with Black by Pearl Jam since it's my favorite of theirs, especially about 25-30 seconds in when the bass kicks in...yeah...

5 Point Bonus: Who was the first African American artist to take a rap song to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100?

LL Cool J? He was about the same time as Blondie with that insipid Rapture shit...
How dare they!

Spoiler
This sounds like a rock-n-roll station playlist -- all the songs I know have been on CHOM-FM within the last month. probably.

1. I've been looking at the sky
'Cause it's gettin' me high
Forget the hearse 'cause I never die
I got nine lives
Cat's eyes
Abusin' every one of them and running wild

BACK IN BLACK - AC-DC. (or bahaaaahaaaaack in black)

BLACK DOG - LED ZEPPELIN.

CHOM made this song the #1 of all time in one of their iterations of the greatest hits of all time, but just so that they wouldn't be known as the station which always had "STAIRWAY" as the best of all time. Now it's Comfortably Numb. Which is how my rear end feels after playing a round of LS.

5. You got your spell on me, baby.
You got your spell on me, baby.
Yes, you got your spell on me, baby,
Turnin' my heart into stone

BLACK MAGIC WOMAN - SANTANA - this one I do remember from 1971, from the radio, cuz I was too cheap to buy the album.

6. Boiling heat, summer stench
`Neath the black the sky looks dead
Call my name through the cream
And I`ll hear you scream again

BLACK HOLE SUN - SOUNDGARDEN. The cosmological term "black hole' was coined by Princeton physicist John Archibald Wheeler in 1967.

7. I'll stand down by the door
And catch the grey men
When they dive from the fourteenth floor

8. Yeah, keep on shinin' your light, gonna make every thing
Pretty mama, gonna make everything all right
And I ain't got no worries 'cause I ain't in no hurry at all

BLACK WATER ? ? DOOBIES ???

9. But I cut some cord, and I shouldn't have done that
And it won't forgive me after all these years

10. She really gets me high (Bam-ba-Lam)
You know that's no lie (Bam-ba-Lam)
She's so rock steady (Bam-ba-Lam)
And she's always ready (Bam-ba-Lam)

BLACK BETTY - RAM JAM. That certain station used to play this at 0745h about one day in two. It has a good guitar soloist, FWIW.

11. And now at last we plainly see
We'll have a dance of Liberty, Liberty!

12. What can I do?
'Cause I-I-I-I-I'm feelin' blue

Beatles '65: Baby's In Black.

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that fits the theme of today's game.

LITTLE BLACK SUBMARINES - THE BLACK KEYS. doubling the theme.

5 Point Bonus: Who was the first African American artist to take a rap song to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100? I think a contradiction in terms, since a song which hit #1 pop has to be a sell-out and therefore can not be really rap or hip-hop. Therefore, never is the answer. If not, HAMMER is probably right.

Awww, Spillster, you always make me smile.....

This reminds me of a post I read recently that mentioned you and I wanted to respond to it and forgot about it. Now I'll have to dig around and find it. Thanks for the reminder!
Spoiler
1. I've been looking at the sky
'Cause it's gettin' me high
Forget the hearse 'cause I never die
I got nine lives
Cat's eyes
Abusin' every one of them and running wild

Back in Black - AC/DC

2. Every word of every song that he sang was for you
In a flash he was gone, it happened so soon
What could you do?

Black Velvet - Alannah Myles

3. They print my message in the Saturday Sun
I had to tell them I ain't second to none
And I told about equality and it's true
Either you're wrong or you're right

Black or White - Michael Jackson

Still one of the coolest videos ever (until he somehow schizos out and turns into a vandal with anger management problems. The morph technology looks almost quaint now, but somehow that just makes it all the more transfixing....

4. Hey, hey mama said the way you move,
Gon' make you sweat, gon' make you groove.

Black Dog - Led Zeppelin

Is this really that unknown that you have to use the opening lines? Damned whippersnappers and all of your "modern" music!

5. You got your spell on me, baby.
You got your spell on me, baby.
Yes, you got your spell on me, baby,
Turnin' my heart into stone

Black Magic Woman - Santana

I hate Santana and I hate this song. And I don't think Carlos is all that on the guitar. Yeah, I said it....

6. Boiling heat, summer stench
`Neath the black the sky looks dead
Call my name through the cream
And I`ll hear you scream again

Black Hole Sun - Soundgarden

Educated guess...

7. I'll stand down by the door
And catch the grey men
When they dive from the fourteenth floor

Black Door Man - Look Out Below

8. Yeah, keep on shinin' your light, gonna make every thing
Pretty mama, gonna make everything all right
And I ain't got no worries 'cause I ain't in no hurry at all

Black Water - Doobie Brothers

Still my fave Doobie song. Then again, I'm always a sucker for an a capella modulation at some random point in the song. Almost as much as a random stop......and start again.

9. But I cut some cord, and I shouldn't have done that
And it won't forgive me after all these years

Black Horse and the Cherry Tree - KT Tunstall

Man, she hit the bottom of the flash in the pan dust bin in record time, didn't she?

10. She really gets me high (Bam-ba-Lam)
You know that's no lie (Bam-ba-Lam)
She's so rock steady (Bam-ba-Lam)
And she's always ready (Bam-ba-Lam)

Black Betty - Ram Jam

Wow, I got clear to 10 before my krox got stolen. Now I'm forced to go all old school country & western on your ass....

11. And now at last we plainly see
We'll have a dance of Liberty, Liberty!

Black and White - Pete Seeger

Yeah, yeah, Three Dog Night. But I put Seeger just to make you actually read up on the history of this song, which is quite interesting.

12. What can I do?
'Cause I-I-I-I-I'm feelin' blue

Black is Black - Los Bravos

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that fits the theme of today's game.

Long Black Veil - Lefty Frizzell

aka the most painful and hated song in my dad's various bands' repertoires. Because it was a long, slow, ponderous dirge with a 2/4 bass line that was sofa king boring that you were lucky if all of the band members were still conscious at the end. I hated it when I had to fill in on bass for practices and had to sit through this. We'd always follow it up with Under the Double Eagle or Wipeout just to wake up.....ha!

5 Point Bonus: Who was the first African American artist to take a rap song to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100?

Sir Mix-a-lot

Ack!!!! I was so involved in my Long Black Veil reminiscing that I didn't even read the bonus until I previewed! I don't think many bona fide "rap" songs made big waves on the Hot 100 once they added the rap chart, but this one was massive and I remember that it was the highest charting rap song ever or something. Which is not what the question asked, but whatever.....

Fanny Fun Fact: The first rap album to go #1 was Licensed to Ill....
It's the Final Countdown.....
